Henna Question

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm new to this site and need a little advice.
Is it OK to put henna in your hair when you're expecting? I usually color my hair red with henna but haven't done so since Ive been pregnant. Ive got about 8 inches of light brown roots and 18 inches of my signature red! goofy!
Thanks-
Michael Lynn

I am not sure but you can call any beauty school and they should know. What I do remember is never mix henna with any other hair color. It can cause a chemical reaction. Not pretty.

I used Henna when I was pregnant with DD and my naturally brown hair turned purple (Barney purple); they said it was the hormones.....just wanted to let you know.

Best of luck and Congratulations.

Henna is generally considered safe for pregnancy

In some countries in which Henna is used a lot, it is sometimes considered a no-no during early pregnancy, however, b/c it cools down the body (this is mostly for henna tattoos, tho, I've never seen or heard that Henna on the hair is considered a no-no). OTOH, in late pregnancy, henna tattoos are traditionally done as a ritual to ensure a good birth.

Find more info here: http://www.hennapage.com/henna/index.html It's mostly a page about henna tattoos, but you can ask the author about your specific question
