Weekly chat 9/16-9/22 - Page 3post #42 of 1009/18/13 at 4:15am
vc2013 - sounds like you and DF are getting all your ducks in a row!
nettlesoup - where are you? Wishing all the best for your family.
aidenn- awesome that River's so chill. Don't worry about using cloth at night if it is making your life miserable. If you find a cloth diaper that can last all night, great, but if not, don't sweat it. I never changed at night unless poopy.
serena - definitely insist that you get peace and recovery quiet time as long as you need, don't start hostessing too early. Have your mom and DB run interferance to all those visitors and be insistent.
Mama Ana - hope the discomfort culminates soon in a baby!
LivingSky & aidenn - I love 80s kids movies too--mine have seen all the ones mentioned and I keep shoving more at them. Now that they are 8 and 10 there aren't too many I loved in the 80s that they can't appreciate.
dakipode - hope the GI discomfort is over and you are enjoying the last of your pregnancy!
lilmamita - hope those contractions finally ramp up into active labor!
As for me, I'm 39.5 weeks and starting to feel like this pregnancy will never, ever end.
For ten hours yesterday I managed to get my mind off being pregnant (even forgot to eat) by painting twenty (mostly vintage) leather items from second hand stores into metallic fun:
Sorry if those pics are interesting to no one, but when I'm home alone all during the days this week (kids are with their dad all week and DF is working long hours), and trying to stay sane and not count the hours until my due date and wondering if each toning contraction might just MIGHT be the real thing.... a hobby is just the thing!
Miss the gardening months but that is pretty much over. Do still have a pumpkin that might eventually turn jack-o-lantern size.
When will the corn be ready?post #43 of 1009/18/13 at 11:28am
I'm glad everyone else endorses these 80s movies so much! DD1 is only 4.5, so I think Labyrinth might still be a bit too intense for her in some parts but it's one of my favorites. I haven't seen the Dark Crystal or Neverending Story in eons though, so I might try to sneak those in just for me!
Serafina33 - I love your painted leather items. Seriously, though, I am even more envious of you having a passion for art right now! I crave that feeling again - it's how I felt with knitting when I was pregnant, but right now it just feels like one more thing, one more chore. And I never knit if it feels like a chore. I know as River settles into our new family routine, I'll pick up knitting again, especially when Florida only has a handful of months in which to wear knitted items, but ugh, I want that hobby-driven passionate feeling again. Right now, all of my extra energy is going into loan underwriting for this house offer which is just zapping me emotionally. I mean, I want this house, but I want that energy to be spent on something FUN! Selfish me! Anyways, the moral of this winding rant is to KEEP POSTING PHOTOS - I am living my creativity vicariously through you!
In other news, I fit into my prematernity "fat jeans" today. It didn't look pretty stuffing that muffin top into the extra fabric, but at least I can say they were buttoned - it was a huge boost just to know that I'm 5-10 pounds away from fitting into pants that DON'T have elastic on the waist. I don't currently have enough of an ass to uphold my maternity jeans, so it's saggy maternity pants or the muffin top of prepregnancy pants. I'm not in any hurry to fit into prepregnancy stuff as a whole, but it would be nice to walk 50 feet without pulling my pants up to my boobs. What are the other postpartum moms doing for pants right now? Are we going back to hair elastics in the buttonholes of prepregnancy jeans? I need some tips, because the saggy belly pants aren't working for me.post #44 of 1009/18/13 at 11:40am
Thanks aidenn! Did a dozen more items today. Grand tally total is 67! Including two items I made for friend & her daughter, and one item I made for a girlfriend who I am doing a trade with who is knitting me up a pair of wooly rainbow knee high socks! I can't wait for those. I love hand knitted stuff, especially socks. If you ever want to trade leather for wool knitteds, I'm your trade partner aidenn.
I'm a huge fan of wool soakers that are hand knit...have you tried those as a really waterproof diaper cover for River?
My mom just sent me a package full of cloth diapering supplies I had left at her place when my kids were little, and a few new wool soakers she has knit up. I have about 5 grandma-made soakers now but none in size small/nb. They will have to wait to be grown into. I'm thinking of kool-aid dyeing them.
Can ya'll tell I can only think about making things pretty and colorful and I have no interest in watching the calendar and counting down the days until Monday, my EDD? haha.
Actually I did clean up the kitchen today and cleaned the laundry/utility room out today and made the counter space into a cloth diapering/changing station area. Maybe I'll take some pics of that, including my mountains of diapers folded up, to show you guys.
God I have nothing real to do this week!post #45 of 1009/18/13 at 12:05pm
Serafina, i'm finding your new hobby very inspiring. i too am trying to keep my mind off of symptoms! are you planning on keeping all these items? i was thinking they'd make a great etsy shop :)
aidenn, think i forgot to say it in my last post, but thinking of you and the house you put an offer on this week! (or was it last week?). also, i read on fb that you can sleep on your belly again and now you're writing about your prepreg pants -- makes me sooo happy to read!! as i am feeling like my pregnancy is just not going to end, i will simply always be pregnant from here on.
i'm transforming from an early morning person into a night owl. yesterday i went to bed at 2am with a ton of energy. woke up at 11am and am just sluggish throughout the day. MW said it's just another thing the body does to prepare for postpartum.. since babies tend to be awake at night and sleep through the day.
it appears both pets have puked up hairballs or other stuff during the night. gotta clean up the mess this morning or ask DF to be my arms & legs again. i'm wondering how we will handle having a new person added to our household, as i sometimes get overwhelmed as it is with two pets and our own mess alone. given that we're two people who are mostly at home, which is super rare, AND working on our list every day, it seems like we're still constantly busy just getting stuff done.
baby's not moving a lot right now and it worries me. i'm 38 1/2 weeks today, my next appt is on Friday but i'm thinking about going in today to have them check the heart beat. i've been drinking iced water and stuff like that and he does move, but less than before, i feel.
been having contractions / cramps / general period-like achiness for most of the night, and still having them. right now it's just a constant achiness again though, no coming and going of contractions.
people have started asking me whether i've "had a baby yet". people i haven't heard of in months.
we might have a friend come over this weekend. the guest bedroom is all set up now :) would be nice to see some friends again before the baby gets here.
DF has signed us up on mealtrain.com, and is apparently scheduling visits with meals for postpartum. <3 he has also been cooking like crazy these last two weeks or so, and as a result i'd say we now have at least a week's worth of food in our freezer. :)
in a week from now, DF's dad and godmother are scheduled to arrive. Dad will stay with us, godmother might not depending on when the baby comes. so i know the time will pass, probably faster than i think now. i wish i wasn't such a slug right now, though!post #46 of 1009/18/13 at 1:29pmAidenn- ugh pants are my nemesis now. Shirts too actually. I am wearing my maxi skirts and one pair jeans that I bought after dd1's pregnancy. They are at least 2-3 sizes bigger than my normal pants. I can pull my normal pants up but buttoning them is another story. My shirts also aren't fitting well. Pre pregnancy I am fairly small waisted and have C cup boobs. Now, my waist is inches bigger and my boobs are at least 2 cup sizes bigger. So that makes all my shirts short and stretched. Not a good look. But, I have lost most my belly so maternity shirts look frumpy. I have 2 more weeks of recovery and then I can hopefully slowly start losing the other half of my baby weight. I'll need new shirts though, these boobs are ridiculous.post #47 of 1009/18/13 at 5:01pmpost #48 of 1009/18/13 at 5:44pm
Glad to hear it vc2013. I do think they tend to slow down a bit when there is less room in there. Now I get more rolling type of butt sticking out movement and occasional feet sticking out than anything that feels super active. I had a scare at 25 weeks this time and last time when my son was way overdue at 42w5d, not fun.post #49 of 1009/18/13 at 6:56pmQuestion for families with other kids....do your kids have really intense and painful growth spurts? My dd had a growth spurt last night, actually this whole past week but last night it was actual growing. She woke up three different times screaming and crying cos her legs hurt so bad. The first two times we massaged her legs and she fell asleep but the third time she was inconsolable. I finally remembered we ha kids Tylenol and got some and I also drew her a bath with lavender oil and Epsom salts. None of really slept of course and I know how much pain she was in. My mom suffered from pains like this and I did too. I'd rather not draw a bath at 4 am and I'd rather avoid Tylenol. Does anyone have any more natural remedies I could use? Herbs? Oils? Salves?
In other news I had a chiro appt and she said my pelvis was perfect for birthing day. Next week if I haven't given birth we are gonna try acupuncture. She showed me the points on the body that you can apply pressure to so I've been massing and pressing them every so often. This adjustment definitely seems to have helped more. Baby wiggled way down into my pelvis and it right on my cervix. Oy! Midwife appt tomorrow too.post #50 of 1009/18/13 at 7:38pmMama Ana, not my kids, but me- I remember horrible "growing pains" in my legs as a child. No fun! Your poor DD.
Vc, glad the NST looked good! I've had two of them in the last few weeks for decreased movement, as well as one biophysical profile. It's a great relief when all looks as it should!
Afm, I've had a couple of small suspicious gushes of fluid today. Not sure if I've got a slow leak of amniotic fluid or if its something else. Both times I've been very sure it isn't urine. But... just by mentioning it I'm sure I've jinxed myself into another 2 weeks of pregnancypost #51 of 1009/18/13 at 7:59pm
My baby definitely slowed way down a couple weeks ago. Some days when I get worried, I just do fetal movement counts and I always get 10 movements in a really short time. I think it is more that the movements are more subtle now, so I only really notice them if I sit down to do the counts, but don't just feel him throughout the day. So I tell myself not to worry. I'm still getting crampy feeling contractions throughout the day, but nothing that gets into any pattern and no mucus plug or anything else yet. I'm really hoping this full moon makes something happen. I've also turned into a bit of a night owl, going to bed around 1 or 2 AM and then sleeping in until 9:30 or 10 AM. Plus getting in a nap during the day, too.post #52 of 1009/19/13 at 3:21ampost #53 of 1009/19/13 at 3:43ampost #54 of 1009/19/13 at 6:34ampost #55 of 1009/19/13 at 6:58ampost #56 of 1009/19/13 at 8:31ampost #57 of 1009/19/13 at 10:03ampost #58 of 1009/19/13 at 10:12ampost #59 of 1009/19/13 at 3:43pm
