How do u know u have a gifted child?
There is really no way to know.
At 2 kids can be all over the map. Some GT kiddos will be ahead in milestones, some may be average, and some may have disabilities/services for delays. Some kids may have consistent across the board as they reach early milestones and others may have widely asynchronous skills for their age.
The best age that I was told by most psychologists to evaluate IQ is 7-10. It can be done earlier (for schooling purposes), but if it is done- a lot of professionals suggest repeat testing later. Also one test/assessment is just a snapshot-- many times they look for consistancy across a period of years.
The second issue is that he seems to think that she is the third adult in the house and doesn't understand why we think we can tell her what to do. She doesn't throw a fit but will just negotiate with you. I will tell her its time to get ready for bed and she will start negotiating and 10 minutes later I am thinking, "Why am I negotiating with you? You are 2?" Its not that I am a push over, she is just so calm and witty that it takes a while to realize that you are being had.
I know part of the reason is that she has a new baby sister and she is adapting to that but over all her actions remind me of when she was an infant and she would get so frustrated because she wanted to go go go but she was just not physically able to because of her age and physical maturity so she would fuss until you picked her up and took her somewhere.
Sorry about typos. I am typing on my phone.
