I'm a bit delayed with my announcement but Robin was finally born on the 14th September just before 9pm weighing 8lb 1oz. We had planned on calling him Bran, but he just didn't suit the name. I went in to be induced at 2pm with a tampon type thing. As it was especially effective they decided to keep me in, and monitored me for ages in one of the wards. It was taken out again an hour later as it was a little to effective, but the midwives wouldn't send me to the labour suite until my contractions spaced out and they knew for sure I was in labour. Well they took so long monitoring me that suddenly I couldn't cope with the contractions anymore having been to the loo. And just to panic the midwives I announced that I needed to push! So they frantically tried to get me to the labour suite while telling me not to push. So of course I shouted at them saying how the hell am I supposed to not push!?
Anyway, as soon as I got to the labour suite I pushed 4 or 5 times before Robin was born. It was certainly a faster labour than I expected, and not a single painkiller was used! But unfortunately I ended up losing about a litre and a half of blood from the placenta, and had to have it manually removed. And that was my first experience of an epidural. The great thing about our hospital is that they are quite happy for you to share the bed with the baby which was great.
