Dh went out this morning and picked up a few things.   He also bought me me some cough syrup.  My cold has turned nasty and become a nice mess of chest congestion.  I also stopped to get snacks for ds's soccer game tomorrow.    I took all of the food, snacks and cough medicine out of the grocery budget.

$443.13 left for the month.

I just did our checkbook and me working is really going to mess up my unemployment. If I get more than one sub job a week we quite simply can't afford to live for the next 6 weeks because it drops my unemployment so low.

edited to add - I looked through our budget a second time and I'm a 1/2 payment ahead on our mortgage. I canceled one 1/2 payment so I'm no longer ahead to give me room in the budget to work 2 days a week. I'm not sure what I'll do if I get called for more than that. I don't feel like I can honestly say that I was available for work and that I didn't turn down work if I turn down a sub job. Yes, I know when they ask those questions they mean available to take a new job and turned down a job offer. But it would still feel untruthful. However, I really can't afford to work more than that. I guess I'll just hope it all works out and I only get offered about 2 days a week.

'm totally in! Last month I spent an un-godly amount of money (with horseback riding payments, gymnastics, doctors and I loaned my brother a bit of money because he's expecting a baby/had a car accident that cost them their only car..) We had to take out of savings, so I'm hoping for a simple October of less-spending!

Anyway I'm mum to two little babes, we are unschoolers (sort of), we live on a little farm but our garden didn't feed us more than the season (very little leftover). My goal is to stay out of stores, because if I go in I almost always walk away with things we don't need...so besides homeschool adventures and playdates and a few special outings (pumpkin picking, bake sale) I'm going to not shop!

October 7 - Did okay today. Only bought my inhaler and gas (both I needed) Did go into the bookstore and pick up two Halloween sticker books because it was rainy and I knew they would love them. Used a coupon I had + my Barnes and Noble card which made it under $10.

October 8 - NO SPENDING! Woo hoo.

October 9th - bought breakfast out for kids + bought Halloween sticker books (little out of budget)

October 10th - bought bagel + coffee (3$, don't count that)

October 11th - the day is young! I plan on going to the diner for breakfast but no other spending (diner is in budget)

UPDATE: On the 11th we had to pay doctors bill which was expensive!

October 12th - Bad day : ( I posted again on this board earlier I had a set amount of money for Waldorf fair, but I splurged and bought a root children needle felted piece of art for the playroom, and on the way home we stopped at the food coop and I bought snacks + dinner for kiddos because it was so late! Over $100 :/ Going to make up for it, by keeping the week simple at home

October 13 - Went to Comic Con, budget for food and small treat for each child and kept to my budget

October 14 - No spending! Woop!

October 15 - bought some pretty stickers for my crafting kit I didn't need + a vintage Halloween sign. Spent under $20 but didn't NEED them.

October 16- No spending!

October 17th - Food shopping (budgeted for that) $250

October 18th - Spent $20 on gas, paid horseback riding lessons (budgeted) and bought bagels + coffee ($13) ehh, didn't need them, but also didn't pack a snack for after riding, so it was buy the bagels or be hungry for hours :/

Like the above posters, I'm going to set myself a goal of staying OUT of the stores.  If we need it, I'll buy it on the internet.  I tend not to buy as much when I don't see what there is out there to buy.

DD absolutely LOVES the cowboy boots and my old dollhouse!  We talked about food for her sleepover and she wants me to bake cupcakes, we're gonna buy a pizza to bake here, have popcorn made at home for a snack after dinner/cupcakes, some hot apple cider, and she wants these yummy apple pie crumb cake muffins that I make for breakfast on Sunday.  I'm gonna buy some strawberries to go with breakfast, too, and maybe one other snacky thing just in case.  She loved the idea of a couple of chocolate bars for a party favor and we'll tie a balloon around them to make them festive :)  I need to make my grocery list for tomorrow, but I think most of those things can come out of the regular grocery budget.  If not, I have some left in my sinking fund, but I'm trying not to completely deplete that, with Christmas just around the corner!

Thank you both. I can hardly believe it, but it looks like his boss is going to back him up! I mean really, I can hardly believe it. Even my DH, who is the most positive thinking guy ever, was like, "Well, that's that, I'm going to get fired." I can't go into too many details publicly, but he had a bad day with a client who was an ongoing problem, and because the guy has been hassling DH and has a bad reputation among other clients, DH may--MAY--be off the hook. We're still waiting for the other shoe to drop, because his firm is not known for its employee support, but for now, it looks as though we may be OK. Fingers crossed...

Fingers crossed for your family, Melissa!  I hope your DH's company supports him.

This is a great example why people should take a longer loan term and pay more than they need to.  You've been able to go back to paying the regular payments to help you out financially.

But it really sucks the way things work out, doesn't it?  If I'd had one more kid, I wouldn't have been kicked off our subsidized Health Insurance.  And it definitely was a consideration for "too much work" as well.  Screwy systems.

Got my shopping done super efficiently today!  Found an awesome cupcake recipe--can't wait to make them!  Spent about $30 out of my sinking fund for a portion of the grocery total.  That leaves me with not much for the rest of the month.  I can handle it, though! ;)  Just gotta stay strong and not spend money I don't have.  I did get a $100 refund from tickets I bought for a show that got canceled and it's on my credit card, so the only way I can get that back is to spend it--lol.  I need a new vacuum.  I want  an Oreck.  I may need to wait to actually buy one, though...the one I found is more than $100.

gh to come out of the food budget. My tummy wasn't happy though... Hoping Wednesday (the day my mom leaves!) is no spend!

Oct 7 - :D

Oct 8 - :D

Oct 9 -:irked Unbudgeted, but very necessary doctor visit. Found out my insurance doesn't cover ND's so now I have $300+ dollars to pay off with them. Payed $100 today....

Oct - 10 :D Even though we are trying not to eat out I'm going to call this pizza splurge budgeted... Found out a friend passed away and really didn't feel like cooking. We are doing really good with our food budget so we had room to spurge on good pizza on a rough night.

Oct 11 - :D  Today is good so far, don't forsee any unbugeted spending!

Oct 12 - :irked Unbudgeted spending had an impromptu event and got fast food...

Oct 13- :D Gas, and used part of our small entertainment budget to go to a second run movie theater. Nice day.

Oct 14- :thumb - WOOT WOOT! No spend!!

Oct 15 - :D

Oct 16 - :irked -DH ordered a record on line.... I guess he pre-ordered it a while ago and forgot...

Oct 17 :D - Technically budgeted, but I spent WAY too much on groceries, and its going to hurt next week.  If we can stretch it It'll be fine, we did stock up on pastured hot dogs that were on sale, so that was a big chunk of the price. But I also bought beer.... and DH bought Soda....

Oct - 18 :D Pumpkin farm!

Oct - :irked Ate out un planned... went to a book store and spent money we didn't have... gah.

We bought a rake and some loppers this morning.  We are renting and got a notice from our rental company that we need to do some yard clean up or we are in non-compliance with our rental agreement.  Pain the neck.  I spent the morning cutting back some shrubs and cleaning the gutters while dh raked and raked and raked.

At least the weather was nice while we were doing all the yard work.  And I am counting this as a :thumb.  We'll keep the tools and it's not like we were indulging in a champagne brunch.
