Did a big trip to the grocery store -- shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, rice, beans, fruit, milk , veggies and meat, lots of basics.... almost $200.  My pack of voracious eaters will be eating happily for the next week.

$209.47 left in October's grocery budget.

Yeah. Add in the guilt about the fact that she's 7 and this was her first trip to the dentist, plus I had no clue her teeth were in such bad shape and it's been a bad evening. Some of the damage is not brushing well enough. My kids aren't real great about that and I don't remind them to do it every day or follow up well enough to make sure it got done. I guess this will force me to get better about it. Part of the issues are teeth coming in whichever way screwing up the ones around it. I called my dad to bitch. He said "welcome to my world from when you guys were kids". He said he's surprised he's not still paying for my teeth. He said a monthly check to the dentist was just an accepted fact of his life for over 10 years when I was a teen and young adult. Looks like my daughter got the same overcrowded crooked mouth full of teeth.

I take the boy in for a cleaning in two weeks and this now has me really dreading that.

7.  :thumb  :treehugger  No spend, canned another batch of applesauce.  Strained the apple scraps from the apple scrap vinegar, got over 1 gallon.  It smells right, now I just need to let it ferment for 4-6 months.

No spending today though I am tempted. I have lots of food in the fridge, I can cook. I do not need to order pizza just because dh is out of town. But I really want to. Can you hear me whining? Whaaaaaaa!

Sucking it up and putting on a pot of rice. I have a pot of homemade beans in the fridge. Rice and beans is a proper dinner, right?

More to come.

I have been having trouble posting too.  My last post is all funky.  I could fix it, but I am tired, so I am ignoring it.

No spend today.  Lovely, easy day with my littles.  While dh is out of town, I am just letting stuff slide a bit -- the laundry is done, the living room is a toy-strewn mess, meals have been simple, but everyone is happy and content including me!

Man, I am on a roll!  Kids and I are going to a Halloween party at my friend's house tomorrow night and I'm gonna hopefully make an apple crisp to take with us with ingredients I already have here.  It would be super awesome to have another no spend day in a row (don't know that I've ever had this many in a row before!)  Saturday is definitely a spend day, but I'm gonna try to have some money left over at the end of this month.  I calculated that if I trim just a little bit off my budget, I'll be able to put $1000 toward my student loan each month.  At that rate, I could have it paid off in less than 3 years!

That's almost a week with no eating out and no mini-mart stops!  We pretty much aren't going anywhere, which helps with the gas.  But the girls a re starting to mourn gymnastics, and am too.  Put in 3 applications yesterday and posted myself on Care.com.  Still, nothing.  I'm looking at starting school next fall, first getting an Associates of Applied Science with a Forestry emphasis.  Then I will reassess, possibly looking at transferring to a 4-year Environmental Studies degree or something like that.  But in the meantime, I need some more work!

I subbed again today. So I have two days this week. Which means next week will be tight as my unemployment check will be short. But we'll be okay.

I did the consultation with the dentist yesterday. The estimated cost of the fillings and extractions wasn't as bad as I feared. However, the dentist basically said they won't start any work until we consult with an orthodontist. He seems sure that all the problems she has are due to how very crooked her 6 year molars are and the damage done by the crowding of teeth by those molars. So I guess we'll have to figure what to do there.

I'm happy to have two days in a row that were no spend. It's a lot easier to not spend it when you don't have it.
