*~*~*~ October Chat Thread for Nov. DDC ~*~*~*post #1 of 21610/1/13 at 7:45amThread Starterpost #2 of 21610/1/13 at 7:53am
YAY!! Thanks for starting this thread, Sila!
Starting to get excited - I'm 35w+4d today. Since I had DD at 34w this is huge for me. The 35w was a big mark as our hospital policy is that no pre-term babies can go home before the 35w mark, so DD wasn't even eligible to leave the hospital until then. At this point, even if I do go into labour early at least it won't be a date that is holding us in the hospital it would only be the baby's health.
Anyone nesting? I've been doing a lot of baking - I actually think my husband is doing more nesting than I am. He is currently building our DD's "big girl" bed. He found some free plans online and built it all yesterday afternoon. It is now primed and he will be painting it tonight after work. It is absolutely adorable! And I love how proud he is that it is something he built himself and it looks amazing. He is already looking up plans for a bedside table and dresser. And he often will pull out the butter to soften so that I can make muffins or cookies or whatever later.
I see my midwife tomorrow and am super excited! Happy October!post #3 of 21610/1/13 at 8:25am
Thanks for the new thread, Sila!!
Allison That's so sweet!! My DH is also getting super excited. He actually messed up dates and thought we only had 2-3 more weeks until baby bean arrives. He was so disappointed when I told him that we actually have 5-6 weeks until my due date. I am totally nesting, cleaning, washing, planning and cooking!! In the zone
Hippy I am still having ctx but they actually don't seem as bad. Not sure if I am just used to them, as they still come regularly and my uterus feels really hard, but I don't feel panic or any real alarm anymore. I figure it has been almost 5 weeks since the big scare and lots of ctxs since mid-2nd trimester, not much likelihood that it will start making major cervical changes at this point. And if it did, I am less worried (I'm almost 35 weeks by my latest dates and I am very confident that I am actually 7-10 days further along, based on ovulation and implantation). Any news about the monitor results? How long do they want to monitor you at home? I am so sorry you have to deal with all this right now. It really, really stinks!!
Ultra Camping sounds so fun!! I too love camping but wonder, like Hippy, if I'd be as fond of it while pregnant. We went away this summer but chose to rent a cabin for our adventure this year. Awesome that you and DH got a chance to have some alone time before your little one makes his/her debut!! And yes, my baby is still cookin'!!
Got a note yesterday that there is a case of confirmed head lice in DDs classroom. I've been obsessively checking DDs head, and my own, since yesterday. Good times. We have one or two cases every school year, that we know of, but this time I am really skeeved out. I am worried what I'll use if we do have them. I bought Quit Nits (homeopathic treatment and preventative spray) and used the prevention spray on DDs hair this morning. I told her we'll need to wash it out every evening and spray her every morning for a few weeks. Really hoping it works!! Fx!post #4 of 21610/1/13 at 12:25pmHippy mum- I am just gathering a few supplies my midwife has asked me to have on hand. Drop cloths, hose, witch hazel, etc. some are just things to have washed and set aside in one place for easy finding, like baby blankets. I have a whole bag of chux pads and big thick mama pads leftover from my last home birth.
Fish oil- I take green pastures fermented cod liver oil. I really haven't been asking it lately though, I should start again.
Meks- that is my reason for wanting my dd and my sister there, a chance to see a normal birth. My sister has never seen one of course, but is not totally freaked out by it. She was born at home along with my other sister and she thinks my home births are totally normal, not weird or dangerous or anything.
I haven't really been getting any ctx yet. Oh a few painless tightenings, but stuff I wouldn't even notice mostly. I almost wish I was, it would make me feel this baby was going to come sooner! My last baby was born at 41w2d, but I really feel/hope that was because I had a bad cold at 40w. My first two babies were born at 40w5d and 40w1d. So I'm really hoping this baby will be closer to my EDD or even before! But doesn't every pregnant woman wish that?
Saturday I will be 35w and will start taking my herbal birth formula, mountain meadows gentle birth formula. Makes me feel that much closer to giving birth!post #5 of 21610/2/13 at 9:06am
Thanks Sila :)
Are you feeling any anxiety or anything with a prior loss, now that birth is near? I am, recently.
Who's thinking they'll deliver this month? I'm 37wks the last week, so possible and the more ctx I have, the more I think it is very possible.
Allison-yay!!! That's such a huge relief to get past a milestone. That's so nice your dh is in building mode :) Will make big sis feel good to have a new bed. That's a good idea, taking the butter out early, will have to remember that. I'm making carrot cake muffins today and tomorrow-same recipe, 2 alterations, to see which one is better for my shower.
Sparkle-dh could be right-baby could come in 2-3wks, if you're almost 35wks. I go by ovulation too, though no one else seems too, so I'm a week behind my lmp.
Oh, my friend uses an electric lice comb-you should have them local too. They seem to get an outbreak every school year and it's the only thing that works. She also uses the natural lice shampoo too. Last outbreak I told her to use DE (Diatomaceous earth food grade) everywhere in the house, especially the bedrooms to help prevent further infestation. I use it at home to keep fleas/ticks/anything else away and have had no problems. I probably dust 4x a year, maybe once a month if flea season is bad.
Vaquita-you never know. The body does strange things. Maybe it said no labor to protect baby from your cold. Where you charting and know when you o'd for more accuracy on due date? That tincture looks neat-will you get it w/o the cohosh? I'd be concerned about taking any cohosh prior to 37wks. I might have to start drinking rrl tea at 37, but wanted to wait till 38/39.
So, I'm 33 or 33+5 pending who you ask, lol. It's frustrating for me because if baby comes during week 37 by lmp, he's only 36 by o, and that concerns me. I can feel baby low, but not too low. Though when the u/s tech did the head measurements, he had to put the wand basically on my pelvic bone, baby was that low. I see my mw next week and will ask her what station he's at. I don't know that it matters much in births after the first one-anyone know? Our ds2 wasn't low at, didn't engage till hours before birth.
Monitor-got it today, have to wear for 48hrs, then I see the cardio dr next week, then my mw. I have to keep track of everything I do and how I feel-blurred vision, racing heart/many skips, hot, feel weird, heavy limbs, tired etc. I have no idea how he will separate pregnancy symptoms from heart symptoms. I'm trying to stay positive that I can stay with my mw and not have to be in the hospital. If I do have to, I'm going to write up a birth plan and consult with both the cardio dr and hospital mw on what things can be avoided and what will be allowed, when can we discharge if all is okay, if I have to stay my family needs to be there, will I be in l&d pp or cardio for monitor, stuff like that. The birth center is 10 minutes away from the hospital, I can't see any problem big enough to prevent us from staying with them. She's more than capable of checking my pulse during labor and pp. If I have to stay a few extra hours at the birth center, I don't think she'll mind.
Nesting-eh, I'm going back and forth. I'm having bouts of anxiety over the reality of this baby. Sounds weird, but with our prior loss, it's just hitting me again and having a little fear too, that something still might go wrong. Doesn't help I suppose with this heart thing. I'm buying things on sale for stocking pantry, but haven't really prepped any meals yet. I set up bassinet yesterday and did some shuffling around, I think everything will work how I have it for now. No one's bought anything from our registry yet-shower is in 3wks. It's the prefolds I'd really like to have ready before 37wks and will just make it if I order them right after the shower. Haven't gotten pp stuff yet, or nursing pads.
Has anyone used cloth for pp? The reviews are fantastic, but do they really hold just like the super disposables for that first day or two after birth, assuming normal heavy flow for pp? I bleed a lot that first day, the second day is much better, and more like a heavy flow. I'm undecided if I should pick up a small pack of super disposables just in case.post #6 of 21610/2/13 at 6:51pmThread Starter
Hippy - A little lately, yes. I had an episode of anxiety/worry over the weekend because I was so sick. I started worrying that I was I getting some kind of infection and that somehow she would get it too and that my lack of sleep was really affecting her. My midwife talked me down and baby is doing absolutely fine. Like you at the hospital I was also feeling like I had failed my baby and my family because I was so sick. Even though our losses were much earlier than this and I have never had any preterm labor scares ect this pregnancy, I am still liking the fact that this baby is still so high and in my ribs (I'm only 32wks though). It helps me feel like she is long way off from wanting to be born. This whole pregnancy I've made myself think that I still have so long to go and suddenly I really don't. It's definitely surreal. I have no anxieties about the actual birth though (as long as it's not before 37wks).
Nesting - I want to be. I'm finally feeling much better and actually cleaned up a little today...
I got so sick guys. I tried literally every natural remedy there was and nothing really seemed to help. I didn't sleep for days because I was up all night coughing. I still have a bit of a lingering cough ugh. I talked to my midwife yesterday and she gave me some herbs to try to help me sleep and was able to get some rest last night thank goodness. Hoping I'll get some sleep again tonight! Oh, and I won our DDC baby shower thing apparently? Cool!post #7 of 21610/2/13 at 8:54pm
Sila-Oh yuck :( Did you try Sodium Ascorbate (vit c)? It was my lifesaver last fall when I was sick, bad. I swear it saved me. I should have taken more of it early on and I wouldn't have gotten as bad as I did, I don't think. Thought it was a reg cold. I was taking oregano too. I can't remember the safety of oregano during pregnancy, but SA is safe. Echinacea and I think Elderberry is safe? Pretty sure most of the Boirons products are safe.
Your symptoms are exactly what I fear, because that's how it started for me. I had been so stressed out though, that my body just couldn't fight the bug and it went roller coaster. I need to cross check the Chinese herbs I took last year to see if preg/bf safe just in case. One was for lung pressure and one for cough. What did she give you?
I need to talk to my mw about how I feel. She had 2 losses, so would understand more I think.post #8 of 21610/3/13 at 4:46ampost #9 of 21610/3/13 at 6:59am
Hi 100%- there are a few of us pal here, it's a really nice group :)
Second the rose hips-they are super high in natural vit c. I should find some, forgot all about it.
Went to the birth center class yesterday (req). All of us there have children and it was sort of funny the person reviewing stuff was trying to tell us our ctx were bh's not ctx, unless they were causing cervix changes. Yet, when you read about them, both bh and ctx can cause cervix changes and be dilated/effaced weeks prior to labor. I don't know, when they were monitoring me, both bh and ctx were showing on the paper.
I need to ask my mw about the cloth pp pads. The attendant said she didn't know of any moms there using them after birth, that they measure bleeding by how the super disposable is soaked/not soaked. I have a friend who uses cloth due and I think she used them after birth. So I think I'll have to pick up the supers at least while at birth center.post #10 of 21610/3/13 at 7:00ampost #11 of 21610/3/13 at 8:08ampost #12 of 21610/3/13 at 11:31ampost #13 of 21610/3/13 at 11:47ampost #14 of 21610/3/13 at 1:15pm
Ultra-lips, lol. It is exciting! Are you 33wks too?
I think cloth dipes are so darn cute :) Have seen that brand, but not tried. I have two happy heinys in addition to fuzzi bunz, that I really like. Still going to go with prefolds/wool though for as long as I can, but have at least 2 doz of the pockets. I just think I was messing something up last time with the rash deal. Picked a few hemp/fleece dipes I never heard of, (they are so soft), that I'm going to try-they just take Forever to dry.
Ladies, what is the deal with people telling you what you should/should not be doing in the last tri? Yes I'm pregnant, but I know when to stop and rest, sheesh.
Shower-I feel like the baby shower that took so long for me to agree to is now complicated. My friend is hosting it, but I'm having to buy everything-decorations and food. If I were hosting it myself, I wouldn't care, but why am I having to do most of the stuff?post #15 of 21610/3/13 at 1:24pm
Yep, 33+5 today. We've got showers planned by various people every weekend for the next 3 weekends. The "big one" on the 20th with all my aunts and family and stuff seems to have stalled. My cousin is planning it (not my first choice, but what are you gonna do?) and doesn't seem to have done much. If I'm gonna show up for this thing, there damn well better be some good cake if nothing else. It's not about the stuff, it's about hanging out and having good food with good people. I'm gonna quit complaining cuz even if her shower sucks, I'll have 2 other good ones that are gonna be potluck style. Oh yeah baby!
This is my first baby AND first go-round with cloth diapers so I have a few different styles on our registry in order to be able to try stuff out for a while and see what works. I think at least for now I'm going to stick with pockets and prefolds of various brands. I may branch out later once I realize that I can do this. Funny little cloth diaper thing: we've got a registry at diapers.com for most of our stuff (bigger selection than BRU), but they don't have snappis anywhere on their site. But babies r us does.... that seems so backwards. lolpost #16 of 21610/3/13 at 1:38pmThread Starter
Hippy/100%mom - Thanks! I have/had tried everything (plus more) that you mentioned except the rose hips. I will have to look into those or tea. The frustrating thing was that all of these things usually work and they didn't this time! I really do think it's the lack of sleep to blame. My MW had me take Valerian and Skullcap to get me to sleep so I could recover. 2 nights of decent sleep and I'm feeling much better each day and coughing less and less!
I'll be back to read through more.post #17 of 21610/3/13 at 6:26pm
I am sick too! I have been taking tea and also had my friend take my case and give me homeopathic remedy which pushed it hard to come out right before a client's birth I had to go to yesterday afternoon/night. I am glad it was a fairly quick one and I got home by 1am but still not a good enough sleep since kids wake up fairly early. 2 more doula client births scheduled and I will be able to get my certification!! and I will have it done by the time I have this babe!
@sila- Did you up Vit D3 too? I did and it seems to be helping also! ALong with taking double garlic capsules.
Ultra Cute dipe!! I love fluffy bums!
Hippy I have had people telling me to take it easy for weeks now... In your condition you shouldn't...blablabla... Pregnancy is not a sickness and I know when to stop and take a break.
I am 32 wks (tomorrow) and feeling ok just crampy today, still have a cold and need some sleep!post #18 of 21610/3/13 at 7:18pmThread Starter
Meks - Yes, I made sure I took my d3 every day and extra (for some reason that is one of the ones I have trouble remembering to take every day). I also took/am taking extra garlic capsules as well. I wish I could have done the raw garlic thing but the taste and smell really nauseate me and eating too much gives me terrible heartburn. Glad it was a short birth for your sake! I have certainly gotten sick right after births due to lack of sleep.
I haven't had anyone tell me to take it easy or that I shouldn't be doing specific things yet. But every single person that asks me when the baby is due or how far along I am either says "you're so tiny" or "wow, you look great". It's kind of annoying. Oh well. I'm not worried about how big my belly is or isn't.
Our baby shower is Sunday. I'm excited!
Edited by SilaMarila - 10/3/13 at 7:30pmpost #19 of 21610/4/13 at 5:37amGlad everyone is feeling positive about our calendar loci , sorry so many colds . I suspected my babe had gone head down last weekend and my yesterday visit confirmed it . Hope he stays there .
I hear you guys on the anxiety . At my worst the words "cerebral palsy , still birth , SIDS , shoulder dystocias " float through my mind . Oh why can't I be blissfully unaware of any risks like I was with 1&2 !!! This time in my pregnancy with them was so exciting . Now it's 99% excitement and 1% dread.
I've gained 37 lbs and it feels like 100 . Just reminding myself that this is how I am pregnant and within months I'll be in great shape again . I am still exercising but I don't enjoy it at all. Just feel like I have to pee the whole time unless it's yoga . I've got a Doberman who wants daily runs . Most I can do is an hour plus every few days .
Once he was head down I had at least three of those searing , heat/ pain cervical contractions . I thought uh oh , I remember that feeling . I might be anywhere from 33-35 weeks this week. They've scheduled me a sizing / dating ultrasound for two weeks .
I'm thinking about doing the belly band this time around . May buy it this weekend .
For those doing hospital / birth center births - what are you packing to wear during labor and recovery ? Nursing nightgowns ? Oversized t shirts ? I'm indecisive .
And what are everyone's sleeping arrangements plans . I'm trying to transition my 5 year old to her toddler bet at the foot of my king sized . I will put the rail on and that's where the little one will sleep. I have an 8 yr old who still migrates to my bed sometimes but I'm staying on him that if he needs to go with someone to go to daddy's bed. Trying to get this sorted out now before the babe is here . My five year old would be fine if she didn't roll over to get close to my chest some nites . That wouldn't be good with the new one here .
Anyone else kid night wrangling ?
We are all so close !!!post #20 of 21610/4/13 at 7:32am
