I hope you guys still waiting go on your and get to avoid an induction.
I've got a two week old. She's just shy of 10lbs... Up from the 6lb12oz she left the hospital at!!!
lilmamita - I've been thinking of you with the passport stuff. We had a misspelling on River's birth certificate, but it's all filed online here in Florida now, so the birth certificate only takes a day to be able to print. Huge help to us, but I am surprised that a bigger state like TX isn't on board with that yet. Blerg, I hope it moves smoothly for you!
CDsMom1031 - Nice weight gain on your newborn! River is up about 2 pounds over his birthweight at 3 weeks out. My kids always have huge gains until about 4 months and then it begins to level out.
serena76 - Olivia has great weight gain too! Every baby is different, but the basic rule of thumb is for them to regain their birthweight by 14 days postpartum. You're doing great!
AFM, today is my mom and mine's birthday (I was the best present, right, mom?!) so we went to Steak and Shake for dinner. It was glorious to stuff a whole hamburger in my face and still have room for a shake (my apologies for those who are still pregnant and don't have the room to do this!). My Gramma bought me a TJ Maxx gift card so I can buy some postpartum jeans. I have a boatload of size 10s that I just will NOT be fitting in for the foreseeable future. I know I am only 3 weeks postpartum and I am a heavy gainer in my pregnancies, but I just want to not look like a slob in what I am wearing. Maybe I should just buy some Spanx!
We're still under contract for the house we are trying to buy. Just hoping that Bank of America accepts our offer on the short sale. While the government is shut down, DH cannot get a home loan (FHA and USDA are both shut down right now), so while we're not in a BIG hurry right now, I really don't want to be moving during December. Winter holidays are a big deal in our family and I don't want to miss out on our fun traditions because I am schlepping boxes to and fro, you know?
Working on Halloween costumes currently - what are your LOs planning on being? I have a goat (DD1), a lamb (DD2), and a fox (DS). Lots of knitted hats being worked on. I have goat horns on the needles currently.
Jennyanydots - Oh, boy, what a doozy that coincidence is turning out to be! I hope by now you're recovering and that everything went smoothly (as possible). I am glad they were able to have you room in with your baby!
Serafina33 - I couldn't sleep last night and you were on my mind; I am selling some newborn prefolds and I was thinking about your amazing diaper stash recovery and just grinning! It's hard to put a price on the nice diaper stash! That prodromal labor sounds like the pits. Awesome costumes for your older children though!
i am back from my internet hiatus and trying to catch up with y'all!
happy to hear everyone's babies are gaining well. Sage is 10 days old today and has gained to a bit above his birth weight. on Monday he weighed in at 8lbs 4oz and at birth he was 7lbs 13oz. the pediatrician saw him on Friday and was very happy with him.
lilmamita - i hope your situation gets sorted! what bad timing this shutdown is!
aside from that, since you mentioned the SSN: does anyone know of a good reason to apply for one for baby already? we had the option to apply for one through the hospital, but didn't see why we should so we didn't.
aidenn - happy belated birthday!! that's awesome you and your mom share a birthday :)
i'm crossing my fingers for your house situation!
re Halloween costumes: is anyone planning on putting a costume on their newborns? i'm irrationally sad that Sage is too young to be taken pumpkin picking..
Jenny - so glad to hear everything went well!!
Serafina & Mama on Flora - when is / was your due date again? thinking of you two; it's not gonna be much longer now!
Sage was born 9/22 and i am just trying to get caught up on here, missed the last weekly chats. we've had DF's dad and godmother here to help us through the first days. they are both gone now and we've had a peaceful day just being our own tiny new family.
i am healing from a 2nd degree tear and am amazed at how quickly my body seems to be recovering. when we left the hospital, i could hardly walk or sit. yesterday we went for a nice little evening walk. i have also lost more than half the pregnancy weight i put on already. i had some swelling from the hormones right after birth, but that went away faster than expected too.
my mood has been up and down quite extremely. the first week i was totally high on Oxytocin. i started taking my Vitamin P (Placenta capsules) the day my milk came in and actually ended up reducing the dose cause i felt literally intoxicated. then on Sunday, my mood went down and i started to get anxious about our helpers leaving soon. i slightly adjusted the P dosage again and am fine now; feeling normal. :)
my birthday was on Saturday. it was also Sage's due date. i'm really glad he decided to come early.. we celebrated by going to the beach! it was our first just-for-fun outing.
Sage had his first bath last night; DF's godmother showed us how to do that. she's also been amazing cooking tons of delicious food for us to freeze! i'm so glad she was able to make it, she was a great inspiration for both of us and it was so good to have a woman here to ask all our questions.. since our moms can't be here with us. and a dad is not quite the same, sadly.
tomorrow our doula is coming over for her first PP visit. we're supposed to process my birth story. i have started writing it out for myself in as much detail as i can remember. i have a short version of it in my birth announcement for Sage. i'm not sure how to put things into words still.. perhaps she can help with it? we'll see!
9 pounds 5 ounces! When labor switched from early labor (I was at about 3cm) got intense, I had an hour of living hell and nonstop monster contractions in which I went from 3 to 10cm, followed by 3 pushes/15 minutes, & poof! all was done and she nursed both breasts like an aficianado. I am feeling SO much better with this huge baby gal outta me! Perfect health and so, so calm and chill and serene like her daddy.
Hooray Serafina!!! What a beautiful baby and look at that hair! Did she show any signs of post-dates (no vernix, wrinkly, etc) or was she just coming on her own perfect time?
Congrats on the speedy and succinct labor! Fingers crossed, I get the same thing (was 3cm, 70% effaced and 0 station at midwife's yesterday, so closer than I thought!)...
Hi ladies, I'm just going to jump right in here and catch up on the past 2 weekly threads later.
CDsmom, that is some impressive weight gain! We've got our 2 week appt later today so I'll be reporting back too.
lilmamita, good thing your MW called and found out. Government stuff is so bogged down and tedious. I hope your passport application goes smoothly from here on out.
serena, hang in there! Have you heard of the "it gets better" campaign? I keep thinking someone needs to make a spoof of that for moms of newborns!
aiden, yes, go for the Spanx! I've been wearing my $12-Amazon-bought-made-in-China belly binder off and on and it feels so good! I will admit I bought it for vanity's sake but it feels great as a support on my abs and back!
As for Halloween? Hadn't really thought about it. I'm still trying to sort through all the clothes we have and figure out what actually fits. Maybe once I get a better feel for what his size actually is I'll keep an eye on the costume racks at Target, Costco etc. I don't sew and I need to really finish knitting mom's cardigan now that she's here! She leaves in 3 weeks...
jenny, good to hear your D&C went fine and you're recovering well! Nice that you had a great doctor too, it makes such a difference to know someone really cares and they're not just performing a job.
mamamash, wow, crazy to think Violet is 6 weeks! And crazy to think some of our DDC ladies are still waiting! Time has taken on such a different meaning for us since the birth of Alden, taking it one day at a time, and it's easy to lose track of the bigger picture that he is indeed 2 weeks old now and we've survived the first two weeks of parenthood!
vc, sounds like you're settling in nicely with your little one. I decided to forgo the placenta encapsulation but it's interesting to hear about different women's experiences with ingesting it.
Also, happy belated birthday! Your godmother sounds like a wonderful person and I'm glad you had her support early on. Our first days were definitely the toughest.
serafina, congratulations! I'm curious as to how your baby's weight was estimated, I've only ever heard that those guesses can be wildly off but yours was pretty darn close! Since our babies were similar in size I'm trying to think back to our belly pics just for comparison's sake. I think you have a much longer torso than I do, I'll have to go look. Congrats again, enjoy your little one!
AFU: My mom arrived late Tuesday night and I was looking forward to having her but at the same time I find myself irritated with her because I am sooo tired. I feel bad/guilty for not treating her to the warm welcome she deserves, I love her and we are very close but my temper has such a short fuse these days. I try to get at least one nap a day so that helps. Hopefully as the weeks go by and we learn a little bit more about the newborn routine my moods will even out and I can have some nice bonding time with mom as well.
We are off to our 2 week appt later today and I'm hoping to get some more tips and tricks on breast feeding. It's going, we're using a nipple shield, but I'd like to transition off it and let's just say that BFing is still not the warm, fuzzy, pleasant experience "they" tell me it's supposed to be.
I'll try to get on top of writing the birth story and post a picture or two for you in the announcement thread, sometime in the next 7 days...
