ok any moms ready for there babies to be here
Since when is 7lbs big? Was this your last baby or your first? If it was your first, don't worry about it. Firsts are the hardest to push out. And U/S sizing is wildly inaccurate anyway. If you are still worried, try to be upright during the birth, that helps. I'm not a big person, 5'4", and I've birthed 9lb7oz, 8lb13oz and 9lb babies with no problems and no tears. (My first one was hard to push out though!)
wow no tearing yes she was my first and my biggest baby and i had really bad tear and that was even with them cut me to make her have more room to come out and plus her shoulders got stuck too it just was not the easy birth i had plan and when i had my oldest son he was 7 lbs too and i had problems have him it just was not as bad did not tear as much with him but with my youngest i did not tear at all and he was only 4 lbs and 9 oz
Uriber-they could be off by 2#, don't forget that. 6&7# is avg birth weight I think.
Try some perennial massage daily to help stretch the muscles. See if you can push when you want too, at the hospital. If they are telling you when, then you're working against nature and more likely to tear. They probably won't let you stand up, but see if you can get into a semi reclined, instead of flatter position too, it should help with gravity.
That said, yes, can't wait to meet this guy. It's getting hard, I'd like him to not be here so I don't have this stress, but I also don't want him here before 39wks either. If he comes early at 37/38wks, I feel like I'm going to be super freaked out and stressed about short/long term illness.
Vaq - ur babies sound like my sizes too . I'm also 5'4, my hubby is 6'4. Is ur dh tall also?
Hippy - I thought 37-38 was just as good as 40 as far as outcomes .....I was kinda hoping I'm either further along than my due date from my lmp , prob just cause I'm ready to meet this little guy . I'm an impatient person and waiting for birth is always such a lesson for me - I never go early so it's just wishful hoping I guess . Plus he feels like he's everywhere from my neck to my pubic bone . How will he fit in there if I go another - gulp- 6 weeks?!
I did perineal massage with my last and I swear pushing felt great . It's that sensitive cervix that makes all the trouble . But honestly I don't know if I will do it now - feel pretty well roomy down there and not thinking it will make much difference . Plus I'm lazy .
But I sure am ready !
Sunnie-my guess is it's personal preference on if you believe babies are full term at 37wks with lungs and brain fully developed. If you look around-here's an example-http://newsmomsneed.marchofdimes.com/?tag=brain-development, of searching fetal brain/lung development at 37 vs 40 wks, a lot comes up. Also searching babies prior to 39wks should be called premature comes up with info too.
I don't know how much is being generalized in the studies done. So many things can effect asthma development or learning abilities. Some articles I read mentioned obgs pushing for csec/induction at 37wks, but if that woman has no idea when she ovulated that baby could technically be only 35/36wks, which is premature. I suppose it's what we're comfortable with? Going early or going up to 42wks.
Perineal-I did none. I thought about it, but my mw ended up doing it during labour and used warm cloths and oil. I think it helped. I was cut during ds1 birth, and was afraid the scar tissue would cause a tear, but no. I can't really reach, and not keen on dh doing the stretching. I think what may have helped, was that ds2 was facing the wrong way, so my mw was able to really stretch things. I think if he'd been facing correctly, he might have come out much to fast resulting in a tear.
