Just wondering if anybody else is doing the MaterniT21, Harmony, or other fetal DNA tests? They're pretty cool, they screen for trisomies and also tell you the gender at 10 weeks based on a maternal blood draw. I got mine last Friday and should get the results in this week. Totally antsy to find out if it's a boy or a girl in there.
Anybody doing the new blood tests?
Yes, I did the MaterniT21 at 10 weeks 2 days in Manhattan! Got result a bit over a week later! So worth it! It was negative for three most common trisomies (21,18 & 13) & my darling and I have learned it will be a girl! (As Y chromosome was not present in my blood sample of the free cell DNA of my baby!)
And all of this with the precision over 99%! That have a huge piece of mind!
(I still did a week later at the regular hospital the traditional nuchal translucency U/S with blood drawn from finger (for HCG & PAPPA), but knowing the good results from the much more advanced & precise free cell DNA test- I was calm & knew it wil come back normal, & it did of course
But I have not heard of Harmony brand test? What is it? The same as MaterniT21 ?
P.S. I am 12 weeks 5 days today, so far pregnancy is going well & hopefully will be even better
I found out about it by chance- from a magazine article and from one of my newest books on Pregnancy.
It is terrific though as an additional screening tool to the NT since it can help rule out the need for further testing if there were high results for say 18 from the NT but then the MaterniT21 should 18 normal.
I had the Panorama test done, and it sounds like it's very similar (tests for some chromosomal abnormalities +dna, ie gender). I've had the test done twice- once at 9.5 weeks, once at 11.5 weeks, and both times have come back as a no-result. They're trying once more, this time w/ a swab of my husband's cheek for comparison. We'll see, I guess. My nurse said when she spoke to Panorama, they told her that up to 4% of the population will get a no-result.
I'm 18w and didn't even realize they had these new tests until I saw them posted here. I don't care about the chromosome issues at this point. We want our baby no matter what, but we would like to know the gender if possible. I'm considering cancelling my anatomy scan due to some strong fetal movement during my last doppler and am wondering if we can use one of these tests to find out if we're having a boy or a girl. Is that completely crazy? Will my HMO cover this? Any thoughts?
Sara125, sorry, yeah, I think that's a pretty crazy plan. I doubt your insurance would cover the blood test, but I suspect they are willing to cover an anatomy scan. Can you discuss ahead of time with the doctor or technician performing the scan that you are only interested in the baby's sex and do not want to know anything else?
I know this is a little late in response considering we are all past the time when these tests are usually done...but I wanted to put out there that I had a huge scare with the Panorama test I had done in October. The blood work came back as "97.6%" chance of positive for Trisomy 13. I was devastated. My father was dying of pancreatic cancer literally the week I found out the results. I left his bedside to have an amnio done. My father died a couple days later. Got the amnio results on the day of his viewing. It was a false positive. The amnio was fine. No trisomies at all. Having a little boy.
Of course, I have my own thoughts on having my father "still looking out for me" but in general...holy s**t, it was an emotional roller coaster.
