Safer Bed Sharing Tips?

My little one was starting out the night in a little bassinet and moving into our bed with us when he woke up to nurse in the night. He's getting to big for that and we'd like to just put him in our bed at night. We live in a one-bedroom apartment so even when we're in the living room we can see him in our bed, but I'd still like to take the proper precautions to prevent him from falling. Does anyone have some bed rails they recommend or anything like that?

I love our bedrails. These ones http://m.toysrus.com.au/first-years-double-bed-rail/i1197510/
We have the queen size ones and they fit tightly against the mattress. We've also used them on a single mattress as well.

We have the rails on and our mattress on the floor. It gives us more space because we can lie right on the edge of the mattress.

We have our mattress on the floor. We have since she started getting mobile (although even before that I was concerned about her rolling off). It's much less stressful now!
