Preparing for / In Labor Thread - Page 4
My EDD was 11/1. This is my 4th baby and the first time I actually made it to 40 weeks. Others were 38.3, 39, and 39.3 weeks so I am a bit surprised I have not given birth yet. I have had no internal exams. The midwives I see don't check until you are in active labor, which is great, I believe. I think I feel better physically now than I have at the end of my other pregnancies. Just waiting.....
Preparing for our first LO -- I've had a defined increase in cervical fluid/mucus since yesterday. At first, I thought it was my mucus plug, but it's just A LOT of fluid (looks like about 1/2 T rather than just dampness). Just curious - is the loss of mucus plug very different from this, or could this be the plug?
Thanks for the feedback! It's more the consistency of cervical mucus (thick). I texted my midwife yesterday evening, when I noticed it for the first time, and she never got back to me. I have an appointment on Tuesday, and don't have any other labor 'symptoms' besides BH ctxns (and I haven't been able to sleep at all for the past two nights -- just restless and WIDE awake).
I walked a 5k with my church yesterday with secret hopes it would kick start something. It hasn't so far. I know I'm only 38+2, but I want my baby!! Nothing feels imminent. I had a contraction "scare" last Monday night (about 3 hours of intense cramps after DTD), but it petered out and since then... NOTHIN. I'm considering a pedicure on Friday. a) Cuz I enjoy having pretty feet and b) because certain spots on the feet can trigger contractions if massaged enough.
Electrical-Sounds like mucus plug, I get that wet sensation and when look it's usually a glob of mucus. Could be a trickle of amniotic fluid though. Your ob or mw should have ph strips that test the liquid, if you keep leaking. Our amniotic fluid can break, but if baby engages, the head will block the leak, and it can also tear small then become sealed again by the second layer of the sac-apparently it has two very thin layers, not one layer.
From Dr Sears labor signs-
6. Increased vaginal discharge. You may notice more egg white or pink- tinged vaginal discharge. This differs from the “bloody show.”
7. Bloody show. The combination of baby’s head descending into the pelvic cavity and the prelabor contractions thinning the cervix can “uncork” the mucus plug that previously sealed the cervix. The consistency of this mucus varies from stringy to thick and gooey. Some women notice the one-time passing of an obvious mucus plug; others simply notice increased blood-tinged vaginal discharge. Some of the tiny blood vessels in your cervix break as your cervix thins, so you may see anything from a pink to a brownish-red-tinged teaspoonful of bloody mucous. If your discharge shows more blood than mucus – like a menstrual period or a lot of bright-red blood — report this to your practitioner immediately. Once you notice a bloody show, you are likely to begin labor within three days, but some mothers hang on for another week or two.
8. Bag of waters breaking. Only 1 in 10 mothers experience their bag of waters breaking prior to labor. For most mothers this doesn’t happen until they are well into labor. If your water breaks before labor has started, plan on your labor starting intensely within the next few minutes or hours, or at least within the next day.
Afm-woke up to nothing, then had a lot of wet feeling and found about a tablespoon of mucus glob-seems like a lot, but not compared to ds2. Lightly blood tinged, loose bowel. I think the wet was from the mucus, not amniotic fluid, even though I had to change my underwear. No ctx started, so I don't think it's anything, other than cervix dilating more. Feeling pretty nauseous, so drinking tea in hope that it helps. Had very little to eat this morning. With all the mucus plug I've been losing, I didn't expect a glob, unless it was a glob of bloody show and active labor started. Couple cervix twinges-he must be head butting me :)
Anyone having lots of decreased movement? I'm getting enough movement every 4 hours at least for kick counts, but it's so much less the past few days.
Eeee!!! I'm so happy for progress, I was so uncomfortable yesterday from about 4pm until I finally slept!
Coincidentally, I decided to distract myself and, for fun and why not?, make these lemon cupcakes that a friend swears by for going into labor. LOL, I wonder if they "worked"!
