Thank God for John Gorka, Starbucks and MT. Ranier....

let me just brag about 30 minutes of pure joy....

yesterday was a long day for me....in fact, i've been on my own for a long, long time now with all four kiddos and NO break...nada....

well, a friend was going to come by yesterday to relieve me... I was counting the hours up to the appointed time...IYKWIM?(Plus, I had woken up with a raging headache....)

Well, about a half hour after that time... I realized she wasn't coming....

OH NO! WHAT DO I DO? I AM LOSING MY MIND! I haven't had an hour to myself in eleven days...

So, an hour into my despair I realize....I need to sleep. So I put the three youngest down for a nap...and they went so easily---as if they knew mama was on the precipise (sp?). I let dd (5yo) watch cinderella and I....

I....

I....

(gasp)

I napped for 45 minutes. Yes, that was 45 minutes, folks.

I woke up groggy, needing more sleep but thankful. So I got some housework done and got EVERYTHING in place to go out when the babies woke up.

Then....I put them in the car....in their wonderful carseats and drove through starbucks. Oh I love a BREVE. I usually do not splurge on something like that but...I....did.

I am driving away, listening to John Gorka (whom I have loved for 12 years now), and then I saw him.... Mt. Ranier.

The sky was so clear I could see EVERYTHING about Mt. Ranier. He was so huge, so majestic, that all seemed right in the world, sipping on my breve, singing with my kids to John Gorka, and knowing that God is soooo Good.

Then we went to the park and played til sunset.

I'm so glad your story has a happy ending! I love days like that...when things just seem to click. And shame on your friend for bailing on you like that!

hey, you're a gorka fan?
i must admit that i don't listen to him at home
but i've known him forever
he is/was a good friend of my dad's
(my dad is john mccormick, he has several cd's out
w/ gorka-ish music, alittle more traditional irish/scottish stuff)

ANYway, glad you had a peaceful afternoon anyway
that just bites when you are relying on someone
and they don't come through
my biggest pet peeve by far
DO what you SAY you're going to DO

OH yes, I know your dad. his music, too. Small world.

Okay, well, I confess. I had a HUGE crush on JG, ten years ago, when I lived in Austin before I was married. A friend and I used to go to his concerts and ask him to sign our birthday cards to each other. I have several cards with his birthday wishes on them. I know he thought I was silly. I was silly.

But he inspired so much of my style in writing and playing guitar. I felt so free to sing and write about what I wanted to and be myself after hearing his and a few others' music.

I no longer have that crush but continue to love his music and style. I heard that he got married and i think he has children and I am thrilled for him. He seems like a solid guy.

Oh, more diapers to change. WHY WON"T THEY STOP? :

Peace,

oh and my friend? she was having a hard time with her two teenage sons. She needed to honor her family first and I totally respect that.

she came yesterday and I got out BY MYSELF FOR THREE, yes THREE, hours. and guess WHO I listened to....

I got a nap for 45 min yesterday myself. An absolute miracle happened - my twins AND my 2 year old all napped at the SAME TIME! My older 2 got a video and were actually quiet and didn't fight and let me nap. It was wonderful!

I love starbucks too - though I don't usually spluge on that either - a drive -through Starbucks just opened in town and I'm so excited about that. I've stopped there a couple of times with all the kids sleeping in their carseats.

E-

Listened to your dad again today...(funny to say that in a way)...

over again...over again...Peace must come.......

about JG. Glad he is deeply enjoying his children. I heard he has a new album out, too. I wonder what he's written about this time around....

Peirce Pettis, Shawn Colvin and JG were my favorite artists to see in person back in the day. Its been fun to be reminded of those days.

Oh and I love your style in your posts.

Peace,
