I am a new mom to be, due in April! I am very health conscious and want to have a healthy and fit (but safe) pregnancy. If there are any other pregnant ladies or moms that have been there, I would love to form some sort of accountability/support group where we can get to know each other and give each other tips/advice and talk about how we are working out and eating throughout our pregnancies. Let me know if you interested.
Fit Pregnancy...looking for other fit moms to be!
Im glad you started this! I am definitely health conscious and want to be in the best shape that I can be in now...and quickly after this baby boy is born.
Today is actually my first day that I have signed up to be a coach for Team Beach Body. So I plan on having LOTS of good advice, meals and so on once I get my stuff in!
Until then, Ive been realy into yoga and eating right. I am also a vegetarian.
I'm happy to talk to other Moms who aren't afraid to keep hitting the gym! I'm due 4/10/2014 with my third (although its been 13 years since my second!) and so far have been able to keep up with an exercise routine ( not as strenuos as it had been pre-preggy but not bad…). I've heard that I should keep my heart rate below 140 while pregnant but this is tough. Anyone else have info on this? Also, does anyone have a really great weekly excersise schedule they'd like to share? Any other runners out there?
I ran 1 full marathon (already had been running a lot) when I was 4 weeks pregnant with my first because I didn't know yet. I continued running throughout my pregnancy just fine until about 7 months when the extra weight started hurting ymknees and ankles. Otherwise I did yoga, pregnancy yoga and a few videos for "pregnancy strength training" or I just modified my normal exercise classes to not lay on my back after the first trimester, etc.
My main advice would be to continue exercising but keep in mind positioning and listen to your body!
I've heard that the heart rate thing isn't a big deal. you just have to listen to your body and know your limits. I have been exercising all throughout my pregnancy I was lifting weights and running but I just started the turbo fire program and am loving it!! Its hiit training so its a lot of cardio but its been awesome! The days that I exercise have so much more energy..i can't imagine being pregnant and not exercising at all!!
if you're on Facebook I can add you to my group! just tell me your name and where you're from and I'll look u up!
Happy to hear there are others here on mothering.com who are also committed to staying fit and strong throughout pregnancy. I am as well. I have been CrossFitting with my husband for the past 5 years now and def don't want to stop just because I'm pregnant as I've found it to be a very empowering, rejuvenating, and fun way to get my exercise and stay fit.
I had initially thought I'd be CrossFitting up through the 8th month, but I don't think that's going to happen. Over the past few weeks though, I have really started to feel my body placing limited on my ability to do CrossFit and any heavy lifting any more. This has been disappointing, but I'm trying to just stay focused on listening to my body. I have scaled back workouts to much lighter weight, doing more reps, and generally decreased the intensity to allow for my heart and lungs to keep up with working for two and with less room to work with. I am doing less CrossFit and doing more jogging (but I had to buy a maternity support belt to prevent the pelvic and low back pain from the additional weight) and have started prenatal yoga. I am really enjoying them both more than ever. I'm still trying to do various lifts at lighter weights just to keep the muscle memory and at least maintain muscle tone to some degree. But I know I'm losing strength for sure.
Also here are some good blogposts that I've found on other Mom's who have bucked the trends and embraced their bodies and desires to be fit during pregnancy.
http://simplymurphy.com/ (currently suspended for some reason...)
I also have found it hard to find good options for maternity workout clothes...here's what I've come across, although I've yet to purchase anything from these sites yet, so can't speak from experience on quality/value yet...
Great to meet all of you. I've been going to Zumba 2-3 times per week, plus prenatal yoga. Family and friends are surprised when they hear I'm still going to Zumba, but my OB GYN and midwife both said it's fine to continue so long as I listen to my body, pace myself, and keep hydrated. I'll try to keep going as far along into my pregnancy as I can....
Nice to meet you all!! Its been great to know that there's other moms out there that try to stay active during pregnancy. I know i've felt so much better from working out during this whole thing!
I also just try to pace myself-- My doctor recently told me I needed to slow down a bit though bc I'm carrying low. Have any of you ever heard this?
