Front Seat Safety

I learned a lot in these forums about keeping my son in a rear-facing carseat as long as possible, and then how and when to move him into a booster, and again when it was time to move him into the regular vehicle safety belts.

He'll be 12 in a few weeks, weighs over 100 pounds, and is about 4'9" tall. His feet are bigger than mine! (Yeah, I know foot size has nothing to do with vehicle safety but it still blows my mind that my "baby" is bigger than me in some ways!)

Most of the time, when the whole family is driving, Hannah's in the drivers' seat and I'm in the front passenger seat because she needs so many hours of driving to complete her driver's ed class. But sometimes I drive with just Jack in the car, and I've been making him stay in the back seat. Well, the middle seat of my 2002 Chevy Venture minivan.

When will it be safe for him to ride in the front seat?

It's recommended that children 12 and under ride in the back. It's safer for him back there.
