Sleep Habits and Fertility

Does anyone know how closely (if at all) sleep habits are linked to infertility? I've read that lack of sufficient sleep can affect many things including hormones, but much of what I read about infertility doesn't mention sleep at all as a factor. I plan to ask my doctor about this at my next appointment, but I was just curious if anyone has seen research about it or if your doctor has mentioned it. I have a bad habit of staying up to late to get "me time" and then regretting it the next morning. Perhaps if there is solid research showing that sleep and fertility are linked, it would motivate me to get to bed earlier!

Hmm...I wanted to post this in the infertility forum, but I couldn't get it to submit. Is it possible to move it there?

I moved it for you!

I just read about a study in the Associated Press that women who got 7-9 hours of sleep per night had better IVF results than women who slept more or less than that.  I have had insomnia lately so I have been thinking about the same thing...

There doesn't seem to be much research on this - it can be tricky setting up research to accurately measure this, however as another reply said, research does suggest that good sleep is important. Other studies have shown the negative impact of stress on fertility, so this would correspond to having quality sleep which is important for health and the immune system in general.
