Well poop . I caved last night and got fast food while I was out (it was just us girls home last night), and then tonight we had family visiting, so we got pizza and ice cream. So not only did we get takeout two nights in a row, but I think that they chicken I've been thawing in the fridge has gone bad because I didn't use it sooner. It's not vac-packed, just loosely packed in a sealed plastic bag--from our farm co-op--and I noticed earlier that the bag seems to be filling up and getting puffy (though really, it should still be in the "safe to cook" range, since it was thawed in the fridge the whole time *sigh*).
On top of all this, I paid our credit card bill today, and it was completely insane. Since we started using Mint.com again, we've been using our card for everything, so it basically has almost our entire budget on there, plus all the costs associated with our family emergency, plus the deposit on our family vacation house for next year, plus my dad's retirement dinner, plus a bunch of other one-time expenses. So while it looked like we had a good chunk of money in the bank…poof! It will all be gone in a few days. Argh! Back to belt-tightening.
On the plus side, I've been preparing to do some couponing again, and tonight I got two free sour creams, two free chocolate bars (for Christmas stockings), and three packs of very cheap breakfast sausages, four jars of natural salsa, and two cans of canned pumpkin for less than $10 total. Now that I'm up and running again, I'll be able to put a dent in our grocery budget this way.
