Yikes, Joanie!  That's no good.  Scented detergents are just covering up the smell, not actually dealing with the cause.  We use ECOS (Earth Friendly Products) most often, but sometimes Planet or Seventh Gen.  But there are a lot of different ones... Green Mountain, Charlies, Life Tree, Citra Solv, etc. etc. and they all have scented versions if you really want that.  At least then it's scented with essential oils and you could get something anti-bacterial like orange or lavender.  You can also add your own essential oils to unscented detergents.  Thyme and Clove are good antibacterials.  And lastly you can experiment with vinegar and baking soda in the wash and/or rinse to see if that helps.

Oh, and you could look into different deodorants, too, ones that don't just mask the smell, but deal with the bacteria causing it- like baking soda and essential oils.

Nicole, good luck at work today and with the baby sitter!  Let us know how it all goes!

Ash, glad to hear the weather was nice for you guys!  I remember ToTing in the rain almost every year- or at least being really cold.  It was really warm here, too... like in the 60/50 range.  All that rainy cloud cover.  Anyway, good to hear there were no allergic reactions, either!  Yay!!

Good morning, everyone! Happy birthday Shay and Greta!!

Good luck going back to work today, Nicole!

Joanie, no advice... I find the toxins clean my clothes really well, and the synthetic lavender smell makes me happy.

"they had a broken keyboard, I bought a broken keyboard"

"trying to get girls from a brand?  Man you hella won't"

"fifty dollars for a t-shirt, that's just some ignorant bitch shit"

Etc.

Morning! Happy birthday Greta and Shay!

Didn't ToT but the weather was nice smile.gif

Joanie, I use Nellies laundry soap and until now it's been good. Nothing I have tried has helped with DH's shirts, they are really smelly. I think a big part of our problem lies in communal washers that don't ever get cleaned so our clothes just aren't as clean as they could be YK? I sometimes want to go back to the not so natural side because of DH's shirts ..... And we have tried tons of deodorant changes but nothing has helped... I have tried vinegar and baking soda but that didn't do it either...

Went to visit my aunt, I see her fairly regularly and when I walked into her house with Eli he went into full out Melt down. He cried and cried and cried... Something scared him, not sure what, we have been there hundreds of times. He kept crying and saying outside. I finally calmed him down outside and tried going in again, and he got hysterical ... So weird. We decided since it wasn't raining, and Eli obviously was scared off by something, to just go to the park. While ii put him in the stroller for the walk, he was calming down but kept saying scary. Hmm.... Had me in tears too... He was genuinely scared, I could tell by the look in his little eyes and the Way he pleaded .... Poor guy.

LOL!!!!   You know Macklemore is local, and my son and...pretty much everyone else around here loves him.  My BIL worked for him and got DS and DH into him a long time ago.  I highly suggest checking out the Youtube for for "And We Danced" if you want a good laugh.  It is terribly inappropriate, though, so be warned.  And your absolutely right that his lyrics would be perfect.  Im pretty much in love with that idea right now.

JOANIE-  what kind of machine do you have?  I always used natural stuff or homemmade detergent, then I got my HE top loader.  And it was laundry hell.  I hate my HE machine, I couldn't use cloth diapers because of it, and I had to switch to Tide.

And no Im not looking for suggestions, Ive pretty much tried it all. :lol

Oh, and not to quadruple post or anything, but I only got like 5 snaps in the last day.  And I usually get more than that from just Nicole.  Did everybody go get a life?

I do not know Macklemore... hmmm.

Ash, I have a note on my phone to collect the phrases I like. Lol. I have a few that I am going to force you to make for me. My kids will just have to be scarred for life.

I think I sent a record number yesterday and the day before...

Yeah, I love Macklemore.  My friend from Seattle introduced him to me.  That's cool that your BIL worked for him!

Joanie, true story about HE washers.  They just don't use enough water to get things well rinsed.  That could be another issue.  Sometimes vinegar helps with that and/or an extra rinse.  When I taught cloth diapering classes I always dedicated a section to talking about HE washers and how to experiment to get it to work.  It can be really difficult.

Amanda, I cant wait to hear them!  Im really excited to start this project- you wont have to *force* me to make anything. I think I planned more yesterday with the help from you guys than I have in the 2 months since I decided to do it.  How do you have 3 daughters of the pop culture age and not know Thrift Shop?

Greta's birthday is actually tomorrow...oops.

I am so sick today.  I had a fever all night, and of course every kids was up at least once because candy before bed will do that. Im sure my lack of sleep lately has contributed.

Well.... 2 out of the 3 girls know they'd be in trouble if they were listening to a song with the f word in it! And the third wouldn't share that with me. Lol. But the song is funny... other than the fact that the word cock is in the first sentence. Yuck.

Happy Birthday Shay and Greta!

http://ournourishingroots.com/yellow-coconut-cake-with-cocoa-buttercream-frosting/  (the frosting recipes is at the bottom, it's easy and good)  I use Kerigold butter because it's sooo good!

Ash,  If you're allergic to coconut, does that mean coconut oil too?  My chocolate recipe is 50% coconut oil, so it might not help you...?  I'm glad that ToTing went well for you guys.

Joanie,  Everyone is right, Sora is still really young for ToTing anyway, next year is a better year to start anyway.

Jaimee,  Mackelmore is a good idea for the towels!  As of now we still have the bus.  We are waiting for money transfers to clear and then they have to find a time to pick it up.  They live over 3 hours away (at least 4-5 by bus because it only goes 55), so they have to schedule a long day to pick it up.  I just wanted to make sure that I got a good family photo in front of it before it left.  We actually didn't have a single photo of all of us by the bus.

Joanie,  We have a front loading HE washer and I use ECOs laundry soap from Costco.  It works just fine for all of us here, but we aren't sweaty people.  Sometimes we add borax, or oxyclean or baking soda if something is really dirty.

We had a great time ToTing.  The weather here is absolutely perfect this time of year, it was 80 yesterday and then cooled off as soon as the sun went down.  Because the weather is good, most people sit outside in their front yards to pass out candy, which is super efficient.  We went in a huge group and once we were done we went back over to one of our new friends houses and let the kids play while they passed our candy.  Coralie LOVED ToTing and walked the whole time and carried her own bag.  She's stubborn and hates to ride or be carried, even if she's exhausted.  People commented several times about how well she kept up with the other kids.

Not that Coralie even ate much candy, she mostly ate popcorn, but last night in her sleep she called out, "I WANT CANDY, CAAAANDY!"   It was super funny..

:lol

Abra, glad you guys had a great time last night!  I assume I would be allergic to coconut oil too.  Its a developed allergy that just came on in the last year.  I used to use coconut oil, coconut flour...then one day it gave me hives on my tongue.  And the other day (probably a week ago) I ate a Lara bar and had to use the epi on myself.  It was SO scary.  I was throwing up on the bathroom floor, thinking I was going to die and B would be alone in the house until the kids came home  :eyesroll
