Alaska's Last Frontier: home birth?

i was watching that show last night and Eve is pregnant.  i'm curious if those women that live in such an extremely rural area plan home births, or travel to a town with a hospital at the end of pregnancy?  do they have a midwife come stay with them at the end of pregnancy, or do unassisted childbirth?  i'm guessing home birth since they all have such a close connection to nature and help their animals have their babies.  anyone know?  i'm curious if they will discuss it at all in the show later in the season.

Hello! I have not seen the show, but you may want to post this in the Television forum also. I would be curious to know the answer also.

My husbands actually related to the and would spend summers as a child with his aunt and uncle on the property. Though I haven't been out to the land, I have traveled around that area, I thought he said it was about 30 mins to soldotna which has a hospital, and I'm sure there are practicing midwives in the area as well... Home birth an birth centers seemed to be a big thing in ak, and I know my husband cousins on that side of the family were thrilled we chose to have one!!

I haven't been following the show closely, but actually was wondering I she would have a home birth as well, I would be surprised if she didn't!!

Ok, was wrong, hubs said its in homer, they have a hospital and probably midwives. It's a pretty crunchy small town for AK smile.gif

A lot of very remote folks are hesitant to home birth because of the transfer time in case of emergency.
