Sudden bedwetting

Thread Starter

My child is 8 and 1/2.  She has never been a bedwetter.  Last month she had an accident. She said she dreamt she was going to the bathroom and woke up.  Last night the same thing happened again. Both times it was in the early morning.

We do have a new guest in our house -an exchange student --- living with us. She has had some jealousy. I'm trying to figure out if this could be emotional or is usually physical. If emotional, I'll keep talking to her, if physical, I should get her checked out I guess.
Any suggestions?

PS:  My husband and I didn't have this problem growing up.

Well, have a talk with her and see if there is anything that is bothering her. A bully at school, or some kind of other stress. Does she have signs of a bladder infection? Going to the bathroom often, a burning sensation when peeing, foul smelling urine, etc? You can take her to the doctor to make sure. Our office gives a collection kit, and quickly tests with dip strips.

If its none of the above, try cutting out drinks 2 hours before bedtime, except maybe a small sip or 2 of water if she asks, and make sure she pees right before bed.

ETA: Constipation issues can also cause wetting problems. So make sure its not that as well. Sometimes the full colon puts pressure on the bladder.
