The "Progressing / Positive / Impending / I'm in Labor" Thread

I saw this thread idea on another board and thought it was a good idea that way we can keep all our progressing/positive labor signs out of the regular chat thread. This is just for posting an progress you might be making or possible impending labor/birth posts! :) So this includes:

- Contractions/pressure waves

- Cramps

- Water breaking

- Loosing mucus plug/bloody show

- Cervical checks

- Etc.

Make sense? :)

I had more of those really strong contractions last night, like bent over holding back tears. But it was only like four or five of them, and then it stopped. This time I didn't even entertain the idea that this was it - I've accepted the reality that my babies don't come early.

Oh Michelle!  That stuff won't start for me for another couple weeks, but I remember it well...I just have to remember that all that stuff is why I have short labors once labor really kicks in, and then I'm more grateful : )  Hopefully that'll be true for you too!

But hopefully not too short. :-P

Due date is less than a week away and I am getting so anxious to feel something! Right now my only new symptoms are TONS of braxton-hicks contractions that sometimes are accompanied by light menstrual-crampiness in my low pelvic area. In the last couple days I have also been experiencing low back-ache but it is mostly constant, not tied to contractions per se. Probably not really labor symptoms, plus baby hasn't dropped yet so... yeah. Starting to wonder if this baby will ever come out!

Those are GREAT gearing up signs. I had NO signs with my first baby and 40 weeks he dropped then he was born 40+3ish in an under 7 hour labor.

Official due date this Saturday.  Cervix started effacing and baby dropped. I'm also feeling a lot of pressure downwards. Last night I had lots of contractions that for a second there I believed this is going somewhere (even a bath did not stop them) but woke up this morning with not much going on.  Contractions started again but sporadic.

mcmikies - a lot of the time it really feels like i'll be pregnant for ever.

My practice hasn't offered any checks. However the baby is clearly lower than he was & the head seems engaged.

I hope I get more time, I still have plenty to do. Not Ctx yet. 38 weeks on Thurs.

I just scored a good deal on an SKR for my preschooler & I am IDSO a good deal @ Target for my infant seat (Combi Coccoro).

39 wks today. Last night I woke up with slightly wet shorts...just a little wet.  Once again I was thinking my water had a slow leak. (While I have had some minor incontinence during this pregnancy, I have never had it while asleep nor lying down.)  I told my husband, put on a big pad just in case  and went back to bed.  I had some stronger BH, but nothing else...finally got myself back to sleep. (It is hard to sleep when excited!)  Well, then I woke up this morning, and there has been no other leaking or contractions or anything...so I am at work, wondering if it was a small leak that got stopped up or if I had an accident.

I lost my mucus plug and had a bloody show, but nothing after. That was about 5 days ago, so looks like babies just not ready yet. I think she finally dropped though, because I can eat!! and breathe!!

Well, I decided to go for the cervical exam when the midwife offered it to me today. It was actually kind of nice to practice having to "get comfortable" with my doula, DH, and the midwife's assistant all in the room... the whole birth team who will being seeing a lot of me very soon smile.gif Apparently baby is at zero station (lower than we thought from palpation alone), 1 cm dilated and just a bit effaced... about 20%. So things are happening! I've got a feeling I won't make it to my prenatal on Tuesday next week but we will see, it is still a little early as my due date isn't until this coming Sunday. Just kinda hoping it doesn't happen on Thanksgiving so everyone can enjoy the holiday with their families!

Tried to check my own cervix today but it is way too high still. I think I may be effaced but I'm not positive since I couldn't find the middle. I'm getting inpatient. Sigh. I know all this means nothing but I'd feel a bit better if something was happening already. Planning on starting evening primrose oil now that I'm 37 weeks. And eating dates and pineapple almost every day. And taking a "gentle birth" herbal tincture. Praying earnestly baby comes before my due date. I never ever would've planned to be due a week before Christmas.

Yeah, my midwife said to go ahead and start EPO once I hit 36 weeks, so tonight I did just that. Tomorrow, I will start eating dates and drinking RRL tea (double blech!). At 38 weeks, I will add zinc lozenges and calcium lactate to my daily routine. Today, I definitely feel more pressure down there, and I can't tell if baby had dropped or turned transverse eyesroll.gif

What is in your gentle birth tincture?

I'm 38+6.

I've been having bloody show and losing mucus plug slowly for weeks now. I'm not sure when I get BH, because I don't feel anything when the belly gets hard. Sometimes I just touch the belly out of routine and it's hard as rock, sometimes it goes with mild menstrual-like cramps. I feel cervix pressure now and then, nothing bad, sometimes I can feel the baby aplying pressure down there. And if I'm lying down and make a sudden move, I get a pinch in the side, near the pelvis, like a really strong one.

Oh, and I'm around 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. But I've been 2 cm dilated for weeks now, so it means nothing.

I have never had any issues with not being able to eat or breathe, so I don't know if baby is naturally low or what. I don't think he dropped though, I don't see any changes in the belly.

I hadn't heard of the zinc and calcium lactate! I'll have to try those this time. I'm doing EPO and dates at the moment. Only 35.5 but really hoping not to go to 39.1 (which is when both my girls were born AND happens to be xmas eve).

Apparently the zinc helps the EPO to work and if you're calcium deficient then EPO and zinc alone may not work, also the calcium is good for pain during labour too, its supposed to reduce the intensity of your contractions. I will link to my sorces later when I'm not on my phone wink1.gif

What's up with all the dates??

I tried dates and I can't stand them, lol. Make me gag.  I'm doing 1500mg/day of EPO, Dr Christopher's Birth Prep (at 37 weeks it's 4 capsules/day, ups to 5 capsules/day at 38 weeks). I will start the zinc too soon. And if I go past dates, I have a labor start up tincture.

Baby dropped more today, I can see externally and feel internally. Now that she is LOA I hope she stays down there. My cervix is still posteriot and seems more effaced today, maybe 30-40%. No more open though.  I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow.
