Wanna talk about weight gain? - Page 3

Boo to others who feel like they get to comment on pregnant ladies' weight. I never understood that. MIL and her mother always have an opinion. When I am not pregnant I am too thin. When I am pregnant I am huge. Shut. up.

I am still at 15 pounds at 24 weeks. Haven't had much of an appetite and my youngest has learned to throw a real good tantrum so I feel like I never have more than a few minutes to 'rest'. She is screaming her head off on the floor right now because she some how woke herself up before she was ready from her last nap and she is exhausted and pissed because she didn't want to go to bed last night and got up at 5:00 am today and wouldn't go back to sleep and took about a 25 minutes nap this morning. I am trying to think of the best thing to do since when I pick her up and try to console her she scratches at my face, throws herself, arches her back which kills my back, and all her throwing herself gives me BH and ticks off her unborn sister. So currently she is throwing herself around on the floor rubbing her eyes. I don't really want her to go back to sleep being that it is 5:00 pm. I just keep giving her her pacifier and blankey and let her have her fit at the moment.

@BaileyB since you also seem to be in the low gain/low energy/lots of pregnancies in the last few years category, I wanted to mention iron supplements - I started supplementing this weekend and I feel like a totally new person.  Maybe I'm the only foolish pregnant person not to realize about iron depletion, but I now have an appetite, after like 4 months of not wanting to eat much of anything, and I have energy and I actually like hanging out with my kids again!  not strictly on the weight gain topic, but kind of, because I think it's been affecting my pregnancy way more than I realized.

Well, I have a bottle of floradix in my fridge but I suppose it only works if I actually remember to take it : ). Thanks for the reminder! I also just ordered a few packets of the protein powder called Unjury and reordered my prenatals I should be well stocked, just need to TAKE them!

25 weeks and I think close to 10-15lbs??

well. my slow n steady gaining just exploded. I had gained about 7 pounds over christmas (i think?) and thought it would stop/slow down after i got back to my normal routine (in other words: not eating treats all day long). But I gained another 5 pounds in january!

So that puts me at 16/17 (18?) pounds at 24 weeks. which is fine. totally normal. it's just kind of shocking and hard to deal with when it happens all at once like this. I know i'm completely healthy and normal but i feel huge all of a sudden! :(

I'm with you. I was feeling quite proud of myself for having a modest gain this go around. Then Xmas happened. And it hasn't stopped. I'm pretty sure I'm doing 2# a week right now and I'm not overeating (much). But my fingers are swelling so I'm going to blame water retension....

I have been waiting to post because I am confused how I could've gained 2 lbs in the last 2 days but that what the scale says again today! Up to 18 in the last few days. I am still STARVING today but also been more sleepy the last few days. Maybe its the combination of laying down more and eating more that added up so fast.

Although, DD and I did have a junk food day yesterday and MIL took us all out for supper for my birthday so maybe part of the weight on the scale is that, now that I think of it.

Bailey - I weigh myself every morning (because I think it's fun) and record my weight in an app which shows me a graph of the progression. I've noticed that sometimes my weight will increase really rapidly for a few days (for example gaining 2-3 pounds in just a couple of days) and then after that I don't gain weight for about a week. I think this is a normal pattern to have growth spurts. I'm at about the same weight gain as you: up 17lbs at 25 weeks.

whoa, I gained a lot last week. We went to an all inclusive so I knew it was likely but at nearly 10 lbs that brings me up to almost 25!  Being WAY more careful this month, and avoiding valentines treats like the plague!

If it helps anyone feel better, I was reading in my nutrition textbook today, and it said that for women gaining equal amounts of weight, those who gained more of it in the second trimester had better fetal outcomes. Isn't that cool?
That's reassuring because I gained a lot in the second tri... Last month was almost half my gain! Up 17# at 26w and was only up 8# before xmas. I'm really trying not to gain much but sweets keep calling my name sweetly and with undeniable yumminess..

I've heard that too, weight gain in the second trimester is linked to good fetal outcome. I think if it is all in the third trimester it just makes a bigger baby and all in the first trimester is linked to an bigger you after baby, lol.

I've gained about 18-20lb and I'm 28 weeks. I'm feeling pretty good about that. I've been taking weekly pictures and I was way too skinny before now that I can go back and see. I was about 115lbs at 5'5. I honestly like my new curves! :) I gained most of my weight in the 2nd trimester, so I'm happy to hear it's good for the baby!

Weighed myself again today and back down a few pounds. I seem to do a lot of up 3 lbs, down2 lbs.. Could still fit into my size 9/10 jeans today! I have been back to having more food aversions and a little gaggy/nauseous but I think that is from having a cold and being so congested.

26 weeks today and up 16 lbs.

omg... yes.. lets talk weight gain. I feel disgusting!! :p

I started at 133lb (I'm 5'7) and now at 25 weeks am at 158!!! Thats 25lbs! That's what I was supposed to gain for the entire pregnancy!!

Granted I usually weigh around 140 but I had just come off of a wedding diet so I was lower than usual.

Still.

It sucks.

Its my own fault tho.. I've definitely let myself go a bit. Trying to maintain for the next month to make up for it!

Sounds like most of you are around 15 lbs gained so far! Thats great! Thats where I wish I was!

Forgot to mention... I believe my biggest problem with the weight gain was because in the first trimester---where you're not supposed to gain THAT much--- I put on a good 10 lbs or more because of the morning sickness!! Sounds backwards right? But its because any time I didn't have something on my stomach, I was terribly nauseas.. eating actually helped! Did anyone else have that? Its the most counterintuitive thing but it worked.. so I ate... constantly :(

That is how I usually am in my first trimester too. For some reason this pregnancy I just have had way less of an appetite than my others. I am enjoying being thinner this pregnancy but also kinda wish I had some extra back up weight on me since I am sick and probably won't be gaining and I will need to have lots of energy to take care of 3 kids especially when nursing one and pumping for another.

We have been doing a freezer/pantry challenge (eating mostly what we already had to eat at home) but now we are down to canned potatoes (whose idea was it to buy those?!) and baked beans and a little bit of frozen fruit and veggies. Hoping I feel more energetic by payday so I can go get everything on my massive shopping list and really push my protein and veggies. I am hoping to use a whole bunch of paleo recipes I got and hoping to eat that way more post baby too. DH has been complaining about being heavier after each one of our kids lately. Lol.

I'm 28w and up 10-12 pounds. I gained a total of about 15 with my first, but my endo had my thyroid meds WAY too high while I was preg with her, so it wasn't necessarily great for me to gain that little.

But at 10-12 now, I'm feeling pretty good. I cannot WAIT for May to get here....hurry up! I'm pretty well over this pregnancy business.

Oh and another excuse for my weight gain.... Haha

I miss coffee!! It was my appetite suppressant and craving killer in my non-prego days!! I can't wait to have it again!! I have no doubt some of the pounds are from my coffee deficient diet!

The decaf stuff just isn't the same.. Not to mention sometimes-- depending on the way the decaffeination was done-- worse for u than regular coffee!
Tea is ok but doesn't kill the cravings like coffee did. It actually sometimes makes me either more hungry or nauseas.

I say get back on the coffee!  Not necessarily for weight control, but because you like it!  I have yet to read anything that suggests moderate consumption during the 2nd and 3rd trimester is of any concern.  I've been swilling back at least a cup a day (sometimes more like 3 or 4) since it stopped being a nausea-inducing smell, and did so with my other two pregnancies as well.  I agree though- decaf just isn't the same, no matter how good quality it is.

AFM, I think that now I've added iron supplements into my diet, I'm finally gaining, and am now probably at total gain of about 6 lbs - most of it in the last month.  It feels weird to have gained so little, and at least I had a solid "cushion" going into my pregnancy. :shy  I'm heading off on a 3 week vacation to Costa Rica soon, and I'm feeling a little daunted by that - both by the possibility of gaining too much; by possibly getting sick and gaining too little, and also by the potential for any difficulties while there.  I'll be 31-34 weeks while I'm there, and it turns out that no extended travel insurance plan in Canada covers travel this late in my pregnancy (hadn't even thought to check that - stupid!) but thankfully CR has a pretty awesome health system as far as affordability and quality of care...still, fingers crossed I don't need it.
