I have been on the waiting list for the 2 birth centre's in town but getting a spot is realllyyy hard. There are tons of people that want to get in and just not enough spaces. If you get in, its covered by our healthcare so its free. Last pregnancy, I didn't get in so I had to hire an underground midwife for my homebirth, which was fine but a lot of women are not comfortable going that far and its quite expensive.
Anyway, today I got a call from one of the birth centre's and they said they have a space for me! they even set my first appointment for December 5th. A few days before my first scheduled appt with my family Dr. so after the appt, if all is well I will cancel the appt with the Dr and be completely under the care of the midwives. I am so relieved and happy! I want to go home for almost all next summer after the baby is born and I was worried that if had to pay thousands of dollars for the birth, that would make that kind of trip much harder. Anyway, now that I have a spot, I can choose whether I will have the baby at home or at the birth centre. But there is lots of time to decide that. Phew!
