Starting solids - Page 8

FYI. Tide free and clear is amazing. My diapers are so clean. I can't stop smelling them. Amazing.

Ruby hates purées. Hates. So I suppose we will be doing baby led weaning again after all. Now what to do with all those purées I made!

Rowan eats a ton of food too, I keep forgetting that I have to feed him with everyone else! Today's breakfast was a half an avocado, and the nursing hasn't slowed down at all. As far as spoons are concerned, we both get one, mine is for putting food in his mouth, his is for admiring and chewing on.

I've been too lazy to do much in the way of solids yet.. we tried purees twice.  My baby is 6.5 months but my 1st didnt show a real interest in solid foods till a bit older, I dont get how people can start solids at 3-4 months honestly, it must take a lot of practice to get a baby that young to accept non-liquid food

actiasluna , I do think it would be much harder to get a variety of foods if you are waiting several days. I also wouldn't be surprised if babies care for it less because it gets boring. We got the same advice from our ped. Feed her anything except honey. However, Julia did have a reaction to egg.

[i am also just in awe of how much she is eating!!

Every hour she is awake, she needs more food. EVERY HOUR. AAAAAHHHHHH.

Is anyone else just going crazy?

Last night she nursed, an hour later ate roughly 2oz carrot, 2 oz chicken and squash purée, and something else I am forgetting now AND nursed just half an hour after that was done.

WTF YA'LL.

I have no time again!

I thought solids would reduce her nursing... Nope nope nope. She is taking more BM and formula than before.

We are getting the same thing here. Adding, then increasing solids, seems to have made him ravenous ALL THE TIME. I don't think I've nursed this much since he was a month old. He gained 3 ounces in the last 2 days, which is pretty amazing for him.

I forgot to weigh her this week, but she went from 6mo clothes, leapt past her 12mo clothes, and is in 18mo clothes in a month. Eek!

I'm way too lazy to rinse diapers. Can I just have a wet pail downstairs and dunk or soak poop ones in it, then dump poppy water in the toilet at the end of the day?

Cynthiamoon, you are cracking me up! But yeah, I'm totally feeling you on the crazy hungry baby thing. Griffin is nursing like a newborn (all f-ing night long arggggg) and he gets two solid meals-day. I don't know.

Sooo...what I'm hearing is that ALL our babies are ravenous, distractible bottomless pits with kooky sleep needs.

Growth spurt around six months? Anyone know? I mean, I already know they sleep funny when they are getting ready to do something big like crawl but so much is happening for some of them that I'm surprised they can even function. Look at the list!
Rolling over. Crawling. Teeth. Food. Standing. Making purposeful noises.
Did I miss anything?

I'm hungry just looking at that list.

Gonna go open a jar of puréed carrots right now. Yum.

Makes sense that they'd be starving at this age...they're starting to mobile which is a whole lot more active than they used to be! haha

Ruby has been nursing like crazy all. night. long.  My supply is unreal...I just look at a baby and milk is pouring out of me.

Haha, @wrenmoon, it is truly a miracle they can function!

I have been using the Tide F&C . I thought to try regular Tide I don't want the fragrance. After a few months my F&C seems its not as good. But way better than the other mild stuff I tried. I heard not to worry if all the suds dont rinse out. If I use bleach on a cycle with no soap tons of suds come out of nowhere but it may be airbubbles. I tried to follow AbbysLane advice after getting sick of GMD.

Kalista this makes me feel better about that I haven't really started but I know I should be offering daily. Oh& what do u know about avoiding homemade carrot puree? The dr advised me its too much nitrogen.

I feel like I must be starving my baby compared to all of you.I'm so lazy she only tried food once & i got disoriented. She only nurses 6x a day. And not at night. I thought I should be lucky for the sleep even before we tried not nursing to bed. This is it we're trying frozen butternet squash. And eggyolk! Do I just give he the whole thing to "play "with? I think ill tty the two spoond idea.
I hhaven't got a high chair & I'm thinking of feeding hrr on my lap ..Or getting her a stool so she can choose to join us but she hardly is never downstairs so I'm worried it'll all be too much freedom. Oh well!

Trying to figure rhis out too. Seems theres a middle road between it being necessasy and just starting to get very "solid". I think it must get harder later on .

I give up. I just did a load WITH BORAX (I can't afford tide F&C lol) and my diapers are still completely nasty looking. The one I rinsed looks lovely though. I think I'm at that stage... so I suppose I might as well feed her real food then? I still don't feel emotionally ready yet but we are trying for #2 so I know starting solids will really help that :( I just can't believe that 7 months is on us already. I never should have agreed to having two under 2 but my husband assures me that not getting pregnant won't keep Jaya my baby so the only thing that will make me feel better is getting preggo again. :dizzy It makes sense.

Anyways, so I suppose I am going to bleach the several diapers I have that have terrible stains and remember to rinse with the diaper sprayer. If doing BLW what age do you normally start? Also, has anyone found a brand of commercial baby food that is made with flouride free water? I want to be able to keep something in my bag so my mom will stop trying to feed Jaya frosting or Jelly with HFCS when we go out.

Have you sunned the diapers? That works sooo well!

I don't remember when we started spraying. Maybe 8ish months? It probably varies a lot between babies. Some eat a lot better than others! Like how ruby eats basically nothing. We will probably not have to spray diapers until potty training! wink1.gif

As for your pregnancy logic, I totally get it! Why do you think I have four? wink1.gif

Lordy, the poopy diapers while first trimester pregnant. Do not underestimate what the smell of toddler poop can do to a first trimester nose. It still turns my stomach remembering. Blech.

Ahem, that being said...

I soaked my stained diapers in borax, occasionally boiled them and sunned them to get stains out. The sun worked really really well. Spritz them with water a couple of times on a really sunny day and it should do the trick.

And get friendly with your diaper sprayer, you're lucky to have one! I've been using my garden hose when it's thawed enough, and a nasty bucket outside when it's not. I'm living like its 1840 with frozen red hands rinsing diapers in the freezing cold. Stupid composting toilet. Whose idea was it to live here anyway?

If my kid wasn't launching himself at our faces when we eat I'd so be putting this food thing off until spring.

Do you spray pee only diapers too?
