Contemplating CNM vs CPM. Advice??

My longterm goal is to become a midwife.  I think CNM is the best choice, although will take longer achieve. I am currently starting doula training so I can get my feet wet and be involved.  Any advice would be very much appreciated in this decision-making process!

I went with the CPM because I knew that I was going to be offering out of hospital birth and that was the credential that I felt was most geared towards that. I went through the National Midwifery Institute's program because it was important to me that the program I choose be MEAC-accredited.

I think it's a good idea to talk to both CNMs and CPMs in your area and ask them questions about things that are important to you. What is their scope of practice? What did they have to do to get certified/licensed? What kind of money do they make? How much did they have to invest to get to that income level?

Also do you have any educational background that applies? For example, a bachelor's degree in almost anything can be used to enter an accelerated BSN program. Ideally you've got some sciences with labs under your belt. Those accelerated nursing programs jump right into clinicals, can take under a year and you'd have your RN. Good place to start IMO.
