I got a book about a year ago called barefoot running. Has anyone done this? I've not taken it up, but then running/jogging is not something I've been able to put my mind to and do on a regular basis. I think it would be a good way to connect with the earth.
We live on the Oregon Coast, so we walk barefoot on the beach in the summer. On rougher surfaces, such as rocky hiking trails, we do the next best thing and wear sandals (with socks in winter). I haven't tried the shoes geared toward barefooters, like the Five Fingers or those minimalist athletic shoes; athletic sandals are less expensive and also put little material between you and the earth.
I never made it all the way through the book, as I am not really interested in running. I am having another go at the book and finding it more interesting than I thought it would be. I'm applying it to going barefoot as much as I would like. I have become less barefoot over the last few years, it seems. Not good.
I would love to buy some of those minimalist shoes for barefooters-in-transition. A lady I know was wearing the five toed ones and said they were very comfortable.
