10 hours in an airplane - how to stay comfortable and healthy?

Hi ladies,

I'm traveling to visit my family over the holidays and I'll be a total of 13 hours one way inside an airplane. I'll be 5.5 months pregnant by then. I'm traveling coach class (I booked the flight before I got pregnant...). I'm trying to upgrade to business but no luck so far...

I was wondering if any of you have traveled for that long while pregnant and if you have any tips and advice on what to wear and what to do in the airplane to stay comfortable. My OB told me to drink lots of water to avoid cramping, walk every 2 hours and wear pregnancy compression pantyhose.

You ladies have more been-there-done-that tips??? Thank you so much!!

You'll be fine. That much time in an airplane isn't any fun, pregnant or not, but, yes, lots of water and wear those compression socks. If you are visibly pregnant, people will be extra nice to you.

I flew from London to Seattle and back when I was about 20 weeks with my first and didn't have any problems. Except on the way back, it was fairly hot and I decided not to put my compression socks on (I had those ones that come up to the knee, not full-length). I really really regretted it the next day - my ankles and feet were like elephant trunks! The swelling went away after a day, but it was uncomfortable.
