Lasagna and manicotti freeze fine so probably other pastas would too.

Hi everyone. Yep, home stretch. My guy is so, SO active still. Found a couple of infant carseats at the thrift store (I know, I know, but they really look intact and fine), and they cleaned up great. Still need to get some prefolds--these should be cheap, right? Any idea of where to buy?

Now thinking of the baby boy name "Francisco." Nick name could be Cisco, or to be cute, Frisco. We're from northern Cal so San Fran is our fav city, beautiful and progressive. Also, Catholicism  not my recent background, but I'm kind of enraptured by the new Pope Francis with his quotes on not judging anyone for their sexual orientation, and priority of helping the poor instead of arguing about  doctrines. And then, meaning for the root name is "free man" so that's nice....So maybe Francisco, or maybe Darwin or Storm...Are you all pretty settled on your baby names, or...?

@Wildflower We have had our name since before this one was conceived lol so yep pretty settled!

Our name is pretty settled, but I just can't commit 100% until he is here. DH is locked in though.

Wildflower The name is nice.

We have our boy name but the girl name is more difficult. I'm thinking we'll figure it out when babe is born

Our name is pretty much set. I'm not as sold on it as I was on our daughter's name before we had her... but the thing is, now SHE knows her baby brother's name, so that name would have to feel pretty wrong once he's born for me to switch it. (Or, is it really so bad to discombobulate a 2 yo? Would it totally mess her up to have her baby brother come home with a different name than she's expecting, or would she probably adjust after a couple of days?)

And this may be a bit mean-spirited, but after she claimed grandparents got veto rights during my first pregnancy, I feel slightly satisfied that my mom doesn't like our name choice as much as she likes several of our back-up names. 'Cause guess what, it is not up to her!

Lol! My brother was a Christopher for a while after he came home. My parents decided they didn't like it on him and changed it. I was 5, and remember the great name debate.

Maybe you could just use it as a middle name, or would that be more confusing.

With my first I knew the name before I knew he was a he. This time we did one US and the lady couldn't see a penis so said 80% it's a girl but I'm thinking maybe it's a boy since I know the boy name but am stuck with the girl one. Will find out soon enough.

Also I live on an island and my friend just shipped me her birth pool from across the water. I opened it tonight and it looks amazing and I'm so excited to give birth in it.

You may want to take a look at this photo of a carseat that was in a crash and still looks intact and fine. Second-hand carseats are terrifying, especially since you can get a brand new, SAFE one for $50 or even less, if you look hard. You're trusting that carseat with your child's life - why take the risk that it may have been crashed, handled poorly, had the straps soaked in liquid, checked as luggage on a plane, etc?

Wow, thanks for posting that, JelloPanda. I'll think about it some more for sure.

As a one-time-use item, that means so much plastic going into a landfill, ouch! Looks like there is a need out there for some kind of eco-company to begin manufacturing all-recycled material (or maybe "certified refurbished" /safety tested used?) car seats...

Wow, Erigeron, "veto rights for grandparents?!" In what universe?! They wish! ;)

Yeah, my mom has some boundary issues. There was only one name she flat-out "vetoed". I'm tempted to use it just to be contrary but I really don't like the name either (Lance... makes me think of Lance Armstrong, and he really annoys me). My husband thinks she made the original comment in an attempt to be supportive of me after I complained about a name he'd suggested that I didn't like--that is, that she was trying more to say "As grandparents, we'll veto that horrible name so you don't have to"--but I still don't think it was appropriate.

We have a maternity/kids consignment store in town. Went and bought a few things for both kids and 2 sweaters for me. It's so nice to have some sweaters that cover my belly! It feels like kind of wasteful spending because I will only need them for another month anyway, but I'm just so sick of my entire wardrobe right now. And I may have another baby. Or someone else may wear them. A few of my maternity shirts came from a friend and she's trying for another baby soon, so I may give the whole lot to her and tell her I'd like them again when she's done.
