Started bleeding yesterday, I am trying not to freak out

It started with some light brown bleeding and now today it has been getting more red every time I check. Its been more like mucus than period bleeding so I am not sure what to think. I have a very mild soreness in my lower stomach too but not like cramps. I don't have my first appointment for another 2 weeks so I think I am going to just wait it out. Am I freaking out over nothing or should I really consider going to the doctor? I know if its a miscarriage there isn't anything the doctor could do anyway.

I had bleeding last week and know just how you feel.

The advice I got (from both a nurse and a midwife) was this:

It's really common in the first trimester, and can be cause by dozens of things having nothing to do with miscarriage.
Sex as much as two days ago can cause bleeding. So can constipation/straining.
Brown/dark blood is usually old blood and that's a good thing.
Placenta implantation bleeding is really common between weeks 7-10.
If you still "feel" pregnant (any symptoms you've had haven't suddenly disappeared) that's a good sign.
Coconut water and rest are good for the body and the nerves.

And they both said it's time to seek professional help if I experience:
Heavy bleeding (filling a pad in an hour), get light headed or dizzy, passing clots, the bleeding lasts for more than 4 days with cramps, or if I had strong cramps lasting more than a few hours.

My bleeding lasted 5 days with on/off cramping, but I never had clots and it's since gone and the nausea and fatigue are still in full force so I've calmed down again.

The midwife (my SIL actually) said I could take a pregnancy test a few days after the bleeding stopped for some peace of mind.

Hopefully that's helpful to you. Good luck, I hope everything is okay!
