January 2014: Updates, Brags, Ponderings

Here is January's thread! Post away! :)

DS, age 6, just completed fourth grade math curriculum (we homeschool). He is excited to start fifth grade, which has its main emphasis on fractions. After studying Zoology for the past 8 months or so, he is also halting that mid-year and we started Physics last week. I love the flexibility of homechooling; not feeling pressured to complete a curriculum is great, lol. I am trying to compile different physics resources: anyone know of any great books, you tube videos, website, etc for physics that would appeal to the elementary age yet gifted kid?

Wow sounds like it's working great for you and your ds! :-) Glad you found a way to make him so happy!

Dd is starting her second semester of Jr. High 7th grade. She's doing well in her honors classes and tells me she so glad I did not put her in gifted because of the amount of homework those kids get and how much pressure her gifted friends feel to keep up with it all. A couple of them had to drop out of band because of the homework load. She is in band and was named head of her percussion section. She's happy and doing well and that's what I want.

Here is something that I thought was cute:

Her language art teacher gave an assignment called "We're All Nerdy About Something!" Dd said she is nerdy for liking My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic. "My Little Pony has made me more accepting. Because I'm different from most others for liking the show, it has helped me to reach out to people and make more friends that way. It has taught me to be more open and have confidence in myself."
