Hi, everyone! I'm planning on starting my training/certification with Childbirth International next month, and I have a question:
Is it feasible to start out my business as a postpartum doula and breastfeeding counselor ONLY? As in, not training in or attending births at all? I have a 3 month old baby, and although I have good and flexible childcare options, I would prefer not to leave her for extended periods of time due to breastfeeding and the like. I originally considered just waiting until she was older, but I'd really like to start my business by the end of 2014.
I feel like I might be able to create a niche for myself with postpartum care - I'm very passionate and interested in breastfeeding, and I'm considering going the lactation consultant route later on (it's quite intensive to become an IBCLC, requires many courses that I don't have, etc). So it's not really that I feel like I HAVE to go with postpartum due to my little one, but rather that I feel like it would be the ideal fit for me.
Does postpartum only work? Particularly if you also have a breastfeeding counselor certification?
Thank you in advance!
