Great, thanks.

That's a good one. Also has a link at the bottom to an FDA report which states that both pertussis and acellular pertussis vaccines can cause infection which can be passed to others, often asymptomatically. Acellular could be passed to non-vaxed baboons ( :( ) for up to six weeks.

Baboons?  At the FDA?

Yeah, I agree.

Well, they started with baboons, and passed it to other baboons.

Very sad for the baboons, but at least it's pertussis and not something REALLY scary like ebola or anthrax (that was probably in the next lab over).

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines that some of the FDA ARE baboons...

yeah, I got that :)

The FDA study doc states that the baboons didn't get pertussis from the vaccines; rather, the baboons were deliberately given pertussis (the live bacteria) as a challenge after vaccination. Animals that got the whole-cell vaccine didn't get sick and cleared the bacteria within three weeks. The ones given the acellular vaccine didn't get sick but were able to spread the bacteria to unvaxxed contacts for up to six weeks.

And the baboons that recovered from a natural infection and were challenged didn't colonize the b. pertussis bacteria at all and therefore couldn't spread it.

Mercola's article is the most comprehensive article I have read about the study.

Thanks for clarifying that, nabokoviana.

The PNAS article seems to say not exactly that naturally infected animals weren't colonized, but that they and the whole-cell vaccinated animals cleared the bacteria more quickly that ap vaxxed animals.

"convalescent and wP-vaccinated animals...cleared infection more quickly than aP-vaccinated animals..."

Unless I'm reading it wrong: there's not a lot of data on that aspect of the study. It also doesn't say how recently the animals were naturally infected, just that they were clear 1-2 months before challenge. That would be interesting to know.

From the mercola link:

“When you’re newly vaccinated, you are an asymptomatic carrier, which is good for you, but not for the population.”

The nerve of those vaxers, exposing my unvaxed children to their diseases! How can they be so selfish? What horrid people they must be!

[t]he FDA researchers say they found differences between immune responses to the whole cell DPT vaccine acellular DTaP vaccine, they also admit that “neither vaccine was able to prevent colonization as well as immunity from a previous infection” and that “relative protection afforded by Th17 or Th1 responses in vaccinated or convalescent baboons or humans is not known.

You're right, Mirzam, I finally found it in the paper...overlooked it before in the first paragraph of results: "Consistent with our previous finding, none of the convalescent animals were colonized."

This is so important for people to understand.

DTaP -when challenged baboons colonized with b pertussis for 35 days

DPT - when challenged baboons colonized with b pertussis 18 days

Natural infection - when challenged baboons colonized 0 days

Natural immunity is the only true immunity.
