So glad to hear that I'm not alone in my misery, lol! Jenny, your photo is adorable.
We're doing a lot better this week. Sophie has started smiling and that makes everything seem better. :) Also, we've made some adjustments to our sleeping arrangements. (Well, DH has been on the couch for the past month and is still on the couch--that hasn't changed.) But I've moved Sophie's bassinet across the room so that her grunting and night noises don't wake me up, but I can still hear her when she's hungry. This has helped me a lot. The other thing is that we've FINALLY gotten the hang of side-feeding really well, so when she wakes up for real at 7am, I pull her into bed with me and side-nurse her into submission, lol, so she dozes off and I get an extra two hours of dozing. It has made a HUGE difference in my energy levels.
Violet, so fantastic that your son has slept 8 hours in a row--very encouraging!
About colic, I'm reading a very interesting book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and the pediatrician who wrote it suggests that colic is not from digestive issues at all, but from lack of synchronization of levels of arousal. It's pretty interesting, and seems fairly compelling to me. Although in reality, I guess nobody really knows why babies actually get colic.
Here's Sophie at six weeks:
