DH has been worrying about our mattress. He is the spouse in this marriage who worries about stuff like that. He is worried that my water will break in bed and soak through and it will be ruined (the mattress). I think he has some concerns about the birth + the mattress as well, but it seems like less so, because he knows there will be absorbent pads/birth blanket/etc. One of our midwives jokingly (I hope she was joking) suggested putting the sticky carpet plastic on the mattress. DH's face LIT UP, and I had to say, I am NOT sleeping on that for the next month!!
So, what tips do you have? What have you done in the past? I was thinking of getting a military surplus wool blanket to felt and lanolize for co-sleeping anyway. Could I just do that early? I have read about it, but is it really comfortable? Would it be enough to protect the mattress if my water broke Hollywood style?
