Nursing moms: why is one breast so much more dense and firm then the other?

So my milk is almost gone now (can only squeeze out a few drops) but I'm wondering about the difference in consistency between the two breasts.  The left breast is really floppy and squishy and the right breast is much more firm and "dense."

It's kinda weirding me out a little...

The left breast is always the one which my son has preferred to nurse from, I guess because it has produced more milk.  The right one has always been smaller with what seems like less milk.  Now the right breast is very firm and appears to have grown quite a bit, so I'm wondering if it's now catching up with the left breast, which is floppier..

Any thoughts?

one guess- your left breast is still making milk in low doses, but your right has shut down the milk supply and is doing the pregnant/growing thing.  curious though!!!

my left one is my super producer, but neither is firm or growing, both are producing loads.....

Probably what House said. Mine were totally lopsided after my first, they evened out somewhat after several babies but still a bit noticeable. And I think I must be making more from the smaller side right now because dd keeps going over there at night.

Floppier orngbiggrin.gif lol

Excuse my childish humor.

Mine have done something similar with my 2nd pregnancy. If your right boob was used less, then it still has that firm breast tissue left over. That's my guess, anyways. After 3 kids, I'm about as floppy as can be! No firm breast tissue anymore!

no more firm breast tissue left over here either!  jigglier and floppier and very very soft breasts after 8 years of solid nursing!!!  that said, i like how light they are!!!  and i'm so not interested in big swollen heavy bosoms!  when my milk comes in i get enough of that for an entire lifetime!!!
