I haven't REALLY made a registry this time around yet...
background: I hate showers (if I have anything to say about it, there won't BE a shower), but my sister insisted on throwing me one last time despite my protests, and called it a "not-shower" to try and appease me... it just stressed me out and irritated me, people bought things that weren't on the registry (even after DP and I explained, at length, to my sister [as she was organizing this and telling people where I was registered, etc.] that we didn't want a lot of stuff, and the stuff we DID want was pretty specific - I know there's not polite, proper etiquette way to say that), and then we ended up having a stillborn.
I didn't even write proper thank yous to people, but I stashed all the things that we'd bought or that had been bought for us... so I actually have a good head start this time. A lot of people don't know what happened last time (either I didn't know them then or they didn't even know I was pregnant, 'cause I'm not one to post constant updates on social media about it), a lot of people who know about last time don't even know I'm pregnant this time (My family knows, but I'm keeping it under the radar, even with them somewhat)... as much as I'd love for friends and family to buy the exact cloth diaper supplies I'm dreaming of, I'm totally prepared to buy them myself... my mom really wanted to get me a carseat last time (uh, I don't have/use a CAR? but okay...), so I picked out one to ask her for (folds flat and is good from infancy to booster-seat time) if she's still gung-ho about that.
If I could put things like "pay a month of my electric bill" or "buy me groceries" on a registry, I would... one of the best things I got last time was 3 friends who pooled together to get me a $$$ FreshDirect gift certificate.
SO... what is/was on the registry for ME?
-I'd kind of argue that the Ergo baby and Moby wrap were for me & DP , but I guess they're also for the baby
-A really nice super-sturdy well-made shoulder bag with plenty of pockets (a red oxx gator) for use as a diaper bag (I did not stash it with everything else - I ended up travelling with it, using it for work, etc. - it's the type of bag that would last a kiddo a lifetime, so it might be neat to buy one for each kid we have in a different color and let it grow up with them. I rather like the one I have and I'm not sure I want to designate it as a diaper bag!)
-A handheld bidet (also doubles as a diaper sprayer) - these are great for post partum cleaning (better than peri bottles), sitzbath, herbal soaks.
-Post-Partum cloth pads and a wet bag - used A. LOT. Stashed the wet bag with the baby stuff but I still used the pads for periods - sometimes I just want to let things flow instead of using my keeper , but I'll rinse them out, air dry, and toss in the hamper instead of collecting in a wet bag.
-Breast/Nursing Pads and lanolin
-a bunch of first-aidy/post-partum things that are good for me, but many will be useful for the kiddo too - Ice packs (great for perineum and/or engorged breasts), large cuff sphygmomanometer (most midwives and even OBs don't have the large cuff, and I have large muscular arms, so this is important for getting a non-inflated BP), ear thermometer, fetoscope
-Various geeky wall decals/decor (the door to their room will be a TARDIS door, and inside, the wall will have bricks and clouds and pipes from the original Mario Bros!)
