Why does my 5-week.old hate co-sleeping?

I really tried, but it isn't happening :(

If he is in bed with me, he is restless and grunty, roots all the time, but isn't hungry (have a scale from the HV, as he has congenital hypothyroidism and needs monitored) and he takes 4-6 oz per feed and is COMPLETELY full, won't even latch on, just roots around and grunts. As soon as I put him in his Moses basket, he drifts off to sleep happily and sleeps for 3 hours, until is next feed.

I wonder if maybe the smell of the milk is keeping him awake? That seems to be the case for some babies. Obviously, anything we can say is just a guess because he can't tell us! But it's good that he's been able to convey his wishes so clearly, even if he's got no way of telling you why. :)

By the way, if you keep the Moses basket next to your bed then that does count as co-sleeping (at least according to James McKenna's definition) as your baby is within arm's reach of you.
