Anybody else dreading the maternity clothes?

So I realize it's still super early, but am not looking forward to the maternity clothes! I find there are so few options to even shop at (Canada) and although the styles have dramatically improved from even 30 years ago, I am disappointed with what's out there. Especially jeans! I have a hard time finding the right fit in non maternity, let alone when the belly starts to grow. They stretch out, they're too long, etc. Anybody else not looking forward to the wardrobe? Also, where do you find your maternity clothing at?

I totally know what you mean about those jeans!!! I'm not a curvy girl so the jeans tend to end up baggy in the but area by the end of the day. With normal jeans I can solve that problem with wearing a belt. Not with maternity jeans!

Unfortunately for me, my old maternity pants are waaaay to big for me this go round.... so I will have to buy new ones. I typically wear a lot of maxi dresses/skirts in the summer (I make them myself) so I hope I can go without purchasing a lot of new stuff. If anything I plan on buying new fabric and making lots of pretty dresses! :)

I already broke out my box of maternity clothes to see what I have and what I need.. I love clothes and there are so CUTE maternity clothes these days. I lent a bunch to my SIL who didn't return them and then moved away, so I am actually looking forward to getting a few more cute pieces.. and summer clothes! Dresses!!

I like Old Navy, Gap, and Motherhood. If you get them on clearance with a coupon code, it's less expensive. I don't know what the options are for Canada though.

What about dresses and leggings? You have Target in Canada, right?

Ha, I already bought maternity jeans and a maternity jean skirt. I gained quite a bit of weight in my grief so all my regular pants are instantly too tight for pregnancy bloat. lol

I'm actually excited in some ways, because I think maternity pants are so comfy. It was disappointing when I had to stop wearing them after my son was born because I didn't have the tummy to hold them up any more! However, I hate that they're ridiculously expensive and the selection is so small. Also, I borrowed almost all my tops from SIL last time, and now she's pregnant, too, so I'm going to have to find more tops. And I never found ones I liked as well as hers, which is one reason I didn't buy many last time.

I had a lot of fun with maternity clothes last time, the first time I've really needed them in the summer! I bought skirts and I cut off a pair of maternity jeans into shorts and they actually looked really cute just with the plain solid-colored t-shirts from Old Navy and Motherhood and a couple pieces of jewelry or a light scarf. I also loved rocking my swim suit. I took my girls to the pool almost every day and just wedged myself into my tankini. It took courage and I loved it! I think pregnant women are out-of-this-world beautiful and I only wish we could all see it and really own it!

Since I can get away with casual dress 99% of the time Old Navy Maternity is my fav. I fit into their jeans and the maxi skirts are so comfortable. Only problem is having t-shirts that are actually long enough at the end. The tank tops are fine though.

I'd be dreading maternity clothes if I had to do business dress though since none of the stuff at the other chains fit me my first time around and I was smaller then.

I never completely stopped wearing maternity clothes. I only really like the things that aren't obviously maternity. The exception is that I have to wear maternity shirts at the end or they ride up really high. I wear a lot of regular pants though.

I practically live in stretchy waisted skirts, and stretchy black yoga pants since I got so heavy, so I think they'll serve me alright for a while. Gave away all my old maternity stuff since we were done, but there's no way it would fit me anymore! I weigh today what I weighed at delivery with my second, and that's after losing 15# in the last couple months! Anyway, I will hang out in yoga pants until it warms up, then go back to my usual hippie skirts. Maternity shirts will be necessary once the old ones don't cover my belly anymore! Last time I got some stuff at Target, and several things at a place called Once Upon A Child, which is a consignment type place with mostly kid stuff and some maternity stuff.

I had some super comfortable maturity jeans, but after 3 kids they are wore out. I was given a bunch of maturity gauchos last pregnancy (that I love and still wear). I'll probably going to spend most of the summer in them. Not sure what I'm going to do when it cools off.

I bought some stuff a couple days ago. . . I couldn't help myself when I was browsing Old Navy's website in search of a replacement coat for my DS. I got some leggings, a couple shirts, jeans, and a skirt. Sometimes I order more than I need because I usually have to return a couple things for them not fitting right. Also, the only jeans I have right now are over-the-belly and I HATE those. I need something that is under the belly. I am very glad I'll be pregnant in the summer so I can just wear mostly dresses and flip flops. I have a couple sweaters for the last month.

This # 4 baby will mean that I have had babies in all 4 seasons!

I don't mind, at least the warmer months. I like tanks and "hippie skirts" pregnant or not! Lol I'll probably need some things for that last month or so when it's cooler (although I'm hoping for a warm fall and mild winter, basically the opposite of how this year has been!!) since it's been 10 years since I was pregnant in cooler weather.
I buy things secondhand, and I'm sure I'll pick up some things at yard sales this spring/summer. smile.gif

No dread around here.  Plus, we won't be getting truly big till summertime, which is AWESOME SAUCE!  I can't wait having a big summer belly!  I'm so looking forward to it!  It's going to be only dresses for me - and maybe leggings.  Easy peasy and comfy. :love

ME TOO! So far they have all been born the last month of the season. I've been wondering if this baby will hold out until November, to keep the theme. All over my kids like to bake longer than 40 weeks. #2 and #3 were "due" towards the end of the previous months and waited. #1 was spring (May) #2 Winter #3 summer now #4 fall.

I'm SCARED of those weird stretchy-band pants!!! NOOOO!!! I don't think there is any way around them, though. :-(

Stretchy band skirts is the way around them. ;)

I adore maternity clothes. I seriously can't figure out why anybody dislikes them. Who wouldn't want to replace all those pinchy buttons and zippers and do-these-jeans-give-me-a-muffin-top with stretchy elastic comfyness?  I have a long torso so I pretty much wear maternity teeshirts all the time and I am happy for the opportunity to restock.

And for anyone who hasn't done it yet, there will come a time in your pregnancy that below-the-belly elastic pants will become your worst enemy by doubling the already excessive frequency you need to pee. :) IMO, fully belly coverage is totally the way to go. They always stay up and give you the cutest shape.

I'm with xekomaya! I also have a long torso, so... maybe that's a thing. Stretchy, long enough, no restriction - love it.  I also love that, during pregnancy, I can wear fitted clothes and not even think about whether my belly looks bloated. Awesome bonus.

It also means borrowing clothes from friends, and getting something of a new wardrobe, which I generally never get to do.

Over the belly vs. Below the belly

LOL.. it's totally a personal preference. I have pants in both, and really prefer to have under the belly. I find myself folding down the over-the-belly panels to get them off my belly. I've never liked anything hugging my belly though.. far too itchy and restraining for me, personally. I think, for anyone who is new to maternity clothes should try on both and see what works for them.
