1st appt today. MW calculated a much different due date than I... what to believe?

First appt this morning. Sad to not hear the heartbeat, but happy for the confirmation.

My last period was Dec 15th. I calculated due date around Sept 20, making me about 7 weeks preggo. She calculated due date at Sept 7, making me 9 weeks preggo.
How is this possible?

Seems impossible to me. If you go with the standard "ovulating on CD14" assumption, that'd put your EDD as Sept 21. If you had ovulated on 12/15, your EDD would be Sept 7. Since that's an alternative calculation method, maybe she was using the wrong rule?

I thought it was impossible, too. But I was okay with it! Lol. It hasn't been 9 weeks since my last period.
Perhaps she was having an off day. I think I'll stick to saying, "I'm due in Sept", and probably be pretty accurate with that long of a span.

Word of advice. Since you dont actually "expire" by medical standards until 42 weeks, tell the world at large you.are "due" in October. It will save you a lot of headache. ;-)

Sounds like she thinks you ovulated on the day you had said was your LMP. I'd go over it with her at your next appointment. You don't want to be that off in terms of dates - suddenly your actual due date becomes week 42 and you could be set up for unnecessary interventions.

I agree, Sukhada. I'm planning a home birth, so she's just my back-up, but my concern is that if she miscalculated mine, perhaps she miscalculates others who are not so aware of these things, and unnecessary medical intervention happens to other women. A 2 week miscalculation is the magic number for this to occur... Not the ideal thing to miscalculate!

Definitely bring it up to her! I guess I got lucky that my babies were all small in size so the ultrasound always lead to a recal on the date bumping it back a week or two. I didn't have to worry about any inductions for overdue that way LOL. I would go with your own calculations because they're probably much more accurate. With my ds I calculated my date at June 19 which the doc later changed to July 1st due to size. He came ON June 19th so I think I was right :)
