When can you hear the heartbeat?

At my first appt the mw told me beforehand she might not be able to find it, because it's typically not heard until 10 weeks.
I can't remember with my other two, but I thought I'd heard it at 8. I'm only 7 now, so was bummed, but not alarmed.
10 weeks? Really?

I always thought was told 12 weeks... I'm going next week at 11.5 weeks and really hope I hear it then. I want to hear it before telling the kids I think...

I'm sorry you didn't get to hear it greensad.gif

Thanks, Delighted. Hoping you get to hear it.
There was a deep desire to hear it for my own sense of confirmation. Not having any pregnancy signs, it would have allowed my brain to really grasp it... Though my heart already grasps it. She said my uterus felt swollen, which I wondered how she knows that, never having felt my uterus before, but her confidence was something!

I wanted to wait before telling my boys, too, but... really... I am just so excited to share. We're going out for lunch this weekend so I can let them know. I've told a few people in my life, and think it's unfair to share with others before sharing with them...

Fingers crossed for you! It's a magical moment, indeed! :stillheart

you can hear the heart beat often times at 9 weeks.. but usually by 10 weeks..i heard mine at 9 weeks

^ I wouldn't say usually. There's definitely a chance especially if used in conjunction with US. But on average it's not until 12 weeks+ that the heartbeat can be heard on a regular basis.

We tried at 11.5 weeks and couldn't find it. We are pretty sure we "ran into it" before babe would swim away...

I am really hoping we can hear the hb this Friday. I'll be 11 1/2 weeks. Baby is measuring bigger (probably over 12 weeks by then) but I don't know if that makes it easier to hear or not.  But I do have a tilted uterus and the placenta is low (not sure if anterior or not) so not sure if any of that will make it harder to hear or not. But it's going to freak me out if I can't hear it (even though we just saw it last week) and I don't have another appt. until 16 weeks and we planned to start telling people after this Friday appointment.  I REALLY hope we can hear it!

I've seem ours 3 times on ultrasound but at 11.5 weeks, still couldn't find it with the Doppler.

If could possibly be because of where your placenta is. Ask your midwife where it is :)

I heard the hb today at 11.5 weeks. It took a minute to find it... With DD, we heard it at 7 weeks from lnp! Everyone was surprised.
