Herpes zoster caused by vaccine strain varicella zoster virus in an immunocompetent recipient of zoster vaccine.

We report the first laboratory-documented case of herpes zoster caused by the attenuated varicella zoster virus (VZV) contained in Zostavax in a 68 year old immunocompetent adult with strong evidence of prior wild-type VZV infection

Proof that vaccines can cause the very diseases they are supposed to prevent?

the chickenpox vaccine does too

Therefore the diagnosis of a breakthrough varicella disease with the vaccine strain was established. An immunodeficiency was ruled out and the patient responded well to the initiated therapy.

This makes me so sad. When my dd was scheduled to get her chicken pox vaccine 9.5 years ago, I said I didn't want to & had severe reservations to her doc. I was poo poo'd & they convinced me to get it for her. If only I could turn back time. :-(

Live virus vaccines have that potential, but any person who has studied vaccines is already aware of that.

But this person didn't have a compromised immune system, they were immunocompetent.

In answer to your edited post. Yes, they do know that which is why the pharmaceutical companies produce live (attenuated) vaccines. When the first measles vaccine was introduce to the US in 1961 it was a live virus, and it was so problematic that they administered the measles immunoglobulin is conjunction with the vaccine.

I know :) I misread it. That's why I had to go back and edit.

So the first confirmed case out of how many tens of millions of doses?  I'd say that's pretty good.

A person has a 1/3 chance of getting shingles naturally without the vaccine.   It's not like it's a super rare thing.

This simply confirms it is possible. Do you actually think it only happens in 1 of tens of millions of doses? Do you think all of those tens of millions of people were followed up with and tested in the same way as this confirmed case?

Calgary measles victims were ‘fully immunized’
