Exercise Plan and Log (Physical birth preparation)

I fee like now is a great time to start (or maybe should have sooner) a thread on exercise. Labor is very physically and mentally exhausting. This thread is about getting our bodies physically prepared for labor through routine exercise. Not only is this important for labor but it will help in our pregnancies, the more fit we are the better we should be able to handle the extra weight, the better we should sleep..etc.

It can be difficult to get motivated to exercise especially in February! So lay it out, what is your exercise plan. Every week report how you did. I'll keep a record of the participants and their latest weekly status report summary in this first post. Getting started is the hardest part. So let's post every day for the first couple of days on our progress.

My fitness plan:

- After every meal some sort of exercise of at least 20 min must be completed. Most of the time it will be walking, low intensity Zumba, or physically intensive house cleaning

- high intensity workout 2X a week (Tuesday, Saturday) HIIT style 2 min work/1 min rest for 20 min

- lifting 1X a week (Thursday's)

- Yoga Minimum 2X a week (Monday/Wednesday)

- Kegals minimum 3X a day, 20 repetitions

If I can just take a walk and/or do my pregnancy dvd a few times a week I will feel like a champ!

Finally back at yoga every day (or just about).  Did two hours on Wednesday, took a break yesterday, and an hour of restorative tonight after driving *all day*.  As we look for a place to move to, I look for mama/baby yoga studios. I hate to leave the one that's so close that I love, but don't think I'll be able to keep it up if we move too far away.

I'm just going to keep at it and walk the dog more as I feel up to it and the weather complies.

Wow, this thread is perfect for me. I NEED to get moving! A 20 min. daily walk would be fantastic.

There is a swimming pool pretty close to me that I am trying to work up the confidence to go to. I need to find a swimsuit I won't feel ridiculous wearing. If I could get started on that it would be exercise I'd actually look forward to.

For now I'll stick with prenatal yoga and my restorative exercise classes once a week. Once the weather warms up I'll be walking miles a day again, but right now it's just not worth it.

So after yesterday I realized I'm going to have to start this a little slower.

I just did one 20 min of Zumba after lunch. I was exhausted last night..and slept really well.

Today I did 45 min of lugging hay/grain through the snow! It was tough work.

I'm thinking of doing just 10 min Zumba after breakfast/lunch/dinner on Monday..and slowly increasing. I am really amazed at how drastically my fitness level has been impacted by this pregnancy. What used to be easy is now difficult, I get tired so easily out of breathe so easily... ugh I feel like I gained 100lbs. I need to keep at it to get up my endurance!

That's the toughest for me, too. I get out of breath so dang quickly.

Can I join in?

My workout plan each week is as follows:

Monday: Prenatal Yoga- 1 hour

Tuesday: Group workout- combo of exercises for strength, speed, and agility. It is supposed to be geared towards ultimate frisbee, which I've played competitively for many years. The trainer is modifying exercises for me as I'm getting bigger. The workouts are usually about 90 min.

Wednesday: Prenatal Yoga

Thursday: Group Workout

Saturday: Prenatal Yoga

I definitely get out of breath much more quickly and I'm finding with the weight gain/stomach growth that I'm not using weights as much as I used to. Also if I run I have to pee, so my group workouts also include a bunch of bathroom trips :)

Keep up the good work ladies!

Of course! Anyone can join us at any time! I'll make a thread every month for our logging and chatter.

So Sunday I did not do any exercises... :( By the time I got out of bed, made breakfast, cleaned the kitchen..etc. it was time to get ready for my hypnobabies class. Then as soon as we got home we went out to dinner for my Dad's bday at which point I ate too much food and came home stuffed and barely able to move lol.

Today is Monday tho...start of new workweek and I find routines are so much easier to establish during the week anyways. So I just finished my post-workout Zumba dance after my breakfast. I am so glad I did it. I'm having so much fun and it's helping my general mood.

Here's the youtube video I'm following:

I really want to try and get some yoga in tonight.

Goals:

Stretching Daily (I'd love to get a sun salutation habit going again... we'll see if that can happen)

Walk 30+ minutes a day (not hard considering I walk or take the subway/bus everywhere)

Swim (I usually do full-out half mile swim sprints) 2-3x/week

weights/plyo conditioning (as far into the pregnancy as I can), ESPECIALLY squats - 1-3x/week

I don't think I'm ambitious enough to set a goal for sprints... but I'm still running around faster than light (5 seconds left to cross the street? I've got it! *ZIP!*)

I haven't hit the pool since summer either, but the indoor pool renovation is finally done, so... it's just a matter of getting my butt out of bed and into the pool

I know what you mean about helping with moods! The last week I've been getting annoyed very easily, which is unlike me. My workout on Thursday involved 3 minutes with a punching bag and boy did that feel REALLY good. Maybe too good!

Glad to hear you got moving again today!

I LOVE kickboxing class for that reason, it's like therapy!! *sigh* now if only I could get up early enough on Saturday's to go!

I did another round of Zumba after lunch...really so much fun.

Then I did 20 min of pregnancy yoga including this:

OMG that was like getting a message

Seriously all of this exercise is fun and makes me feel so good...why the heck didnt I start this earlier? Oh well better late than never!

I think I've finally got enough energy to start putting more effort into exercise, so this thread's timing is perfect! I'd love to join.

I've been putting most of my energy into getting my house back in shape, and though its no where near close to being clean, it slowly getting better, so I'm going to put some of that energy towards working out. In the spring we'll start working in our little garden, so that will help too.

My current goals:

Stretch 2x/day- morning and before bed.

Do prenatal yoga video 2-3 times/week.

Walk once the weather permits.

I'm hoping to start slow, doing the yoga 3xs/week and building up to some stronger activity so I'm active at least 5 days/week. I'd like to work up to some weights for the arms, squats, and such. I feel as if I've already lost all definition in my arms and that I'm looking chubby. It be nice to hit summer with a big round belly, but I don't want to feel gross everywhere else. :(

I had a massage (definitely therapeutic) yesterday and skipped yoga, but did take the dog for a walk last night and again this morning.  (Too much release in one day usually if I push for both after such a long time of no massage.)  I did my Shen this morning (Nei Gong/exercise-meditiation) and an hour of kick-ass yoga.  (Seriously, we did wild thing and a lot standing legwork.  There's even a picture to prove my tree pose is possible.)  So . . . do I get credit for both days, Activia?  :shy
BTW, most of my prenatal classes are not namby-pamby.  This studio believes pregnant women can and should work in class.  I didn't realize how much (well, not after my first week, anyway) until some new, seemingly fit girls started dropping like flies.  They even have an advanced prenatal (?!) but I'm scared to go to that one.  My modified chataranga is still piss-poor, IMO

Okay I may regret public accountability at some point but :) my current goal for the month is to do my Tracy Anderson month 5 workout at least 3xs per week. Off days I aim to do yoga or light cardio.

You can get credit for both @Michelle Murphy :)

Welcome everyone! It sounds like so far everyone is doine great!

I actually managed to get in one more Zumba session on Monday, but only did one TOTAL yesterday. (I got distracted).

I went in the office today instead of Thursday.... so I'll be lifting before I go home. I also have a fair walk between the garage and the office. So I'm counting that total 30 min.
