Friends- 1st Grade

I was curious to know how your first grade boys are doing with friendships...do they have a good group, best friends? Thanks in advance!

My ds is in  2nd grade but friends status is about the same as last year. He has a lifelong friend but that is mostly because I'm friends with the mom and we have younger children the same age. They see each other at church every week and an occasional play date. At school he has 'friends' to sit with at lunch or play with at recess but doesn't request outside of school time together. Ds is fairly introverted and would rather spend his time alone - although he does have a sibling so he is rarely totally alone.

I am pretty isolated at home being a busy SAHM with a traveling husband, and I am afraid my kids will think that friendships aren't important, as I don't have many friends! My neighbor used to send her little boy over a lot when my son was about 5. My son had delays and difficulty making friends...but it was nice for him to have a playmate...however, the little boy was kind of mean to my son and they wound up fighting or hanging out in opposite rooms! As he got older, he would hang out with neighborhood kids now and then, but they would gang up on him and tease him a bit, and it usually ended badly! He gets along great with one or two friends he had since pre-school, so we still do occasional play dates with them..and the boys in scouts are nice too. That's about it. No regular best friend. I am going to talk to his teacher about it, as at his school, they actually care about the social aspect as well. There is a boy in his class that lives a few houses down and we did a couple of "play dates" but his mom said he doesn't really want to hang out any more. She was apologetic and said "we loved him" but I guess her son wasn't a huge fan. My son can talk a lot when he's excited or nervous, and her son is pretty quiet..so I get it.
