I have been going a little nuts with the house cleaning since I got my BFP. I usually don't get sick until 8 weeks so I have a little time before it kicks in. I was talking to another girlfriend of mine who is also pregnant and she laughed when I told her and said she calls it "pre-nesting". So are any of you pre-nesting with me? If you are not sick yet, what projects are you tackling now before it might set in? My biggest obsession is keeping the bathrooms and sinks spotless but I have put together a spring cleaning like check list that I am working my way through.
I had NO nesting with my daughter but I have totally had the pre-nesting days, too! Glad to hear someone else is experiencing it, too :) I've FINALLY cleared out our front coat closet and organized/recorded all the Goodwill (or Salvation Army) donations and they are in my car waiting to be dropped off :) I'm being crazy about keeping the bathroom clean (around the bottom of the toilet, the sink, etc). It comes and goes, today I'm too exhausted to do anything but type (ha).
I guess you could say nesting in that I need to build the nest. We really need to get our basement refinished before this baby arrives. That means that I need to get it empty so we can actually have room to work/insulate the walls/put in flooring. I also came home yesterday to a hole in the bathroom sink. It had a hairline crack that decided it was time to give way. I went to buy a replacement today but they didn't have what we wanted in stock. Oh well, now it just matches our toilet tank lid that had a piece break off when one of the kids accidentally dropped something on it.
Honestly, I'm so busy with appointments with my other kids right now, I feel that it's enough just to get dinner on the table.
I feel the need to finally finish our daughter's bedroom - the only things that remain to be done is to get her her big-girl bed and some furniture to put all her toys away. We also need to get a new bed for ourselves as the one we have is more than 20 years old and is getting quite uncomfortable.
I have a few other projects I'd like to have finished before the baby arrives.
This time around, I will have everything I need for the baby without having to buy a thing, so that's nice. HOwever, I'm planning to cloth diaper full time this time around, so I need to buy a full set of all in ones. I already have some, but I need more if I'm to do it full-time. I cloth diapered my daughter only part-time and I didn't really like the system I then committed to. I'm planning on getting Imse Vimse diapers (they're a Swedish brand, quite expensive, but top quality and eco-friendly/organic cotton).
I am the opposite of pre-nesting! I just vacuumed yesterday for the first time in two weeks and wow, did the house REALLY need it. I haven't dusted yet, and yuck. Surfaces are dusty!
But we actually have a lot of nesting work to do. The room that will be the baby room is currently our guest room (OK, actually, it is CURRENTLY our disaster zone storage room, since we have started getting rid of some of the storage furniture in there). It has a slanted ceiling with two windows (skylights, I guess), and the windows are very old and need to be replaced. But they don't make that size window anymore, so it is quite a job because the windows need to be made a little larger. B's brother is a carpenter and can help us do it, but there is a bit of a backlog of small stuff he is helping us with, leftover from our reno last year. Then, on top of that, the paint in that room is really old and scratched up, but the walls are Scandinavian-style wood panelling, which is cute, but a pain in the butt to paint. Finally, we thought about replacing the parquet when we did our reno, because it is very water damaged (someone once left a skylight open in a storm, I guess) -- but the floor is SO crooked in there that we decided against it. We would have to pour in self-levelling cement, which we had done on our main floor, but we are not about to do that again. So we want to paint the floor. But all in all, that is a LOT of work, and the room is still full of all sorts of stuff that we don't really know where to store. So that is a HUGE pre-nesting project that I am absolutely not in the mood for, he he. Anyone want to come do it for me? ;)
