What have been your favorite books for your young child to help him or her understand emotions? My daughter will be turning one year old soon and I think a book like this would be a great gift for her...

Very basic, but my two adored Baby Faces (and we'd discuss feelings throughout the day by asking if they were Sad Baby or Happy Baby, etc.).

We have a different Baby Faces book. It's by Margaret Miller. DS still loves it at 20 months. I also got a small board book box set by Parragon books. It has ten books each dealing with a different emotion. Example from the proud book: "I feel proud when I do something difficult." I really like these books.

DD got a gift from friends for Christmas when DD was a year and a half that was related to this idea. It was her favourite present that year and she still plays with it daily at nearly 3. They're like little wooden eggs with different emotions on their faces. Let me see if I can find a link...

It's these:

(just a random link I found when I Googled)

They are great for hand-eye coordination (putting them on their little bases), learning colours (and matching the face colour to the base colour).
