I'm a 10 year vegan and am due with my first child in June 2014. I am currently looking for local pediatricians that are accepting/pro vegan/vegetarian lifestyle because my husband and I plan on having our child have similar eating habits to our own.
Does anyone know of any local doctors who are accepting and are also into the holistic approach to cure things and are not vaccine/medication happy?
If you are willing to drive a bit, Dr Rugo in Grafton, MA is incredible! I am a vegan raising a vegetarian little one and she was wonderfully supportive. She had no problems with us using an alternative vaccine schedule, I believe that she used one with her own kids. Above all, she will support you and give you information to help your decision making. Very holistic, natural, alternative- however you label it, Dr. Rugo is it! We miss her!
Dr. Russel Stokes in Westerly in a holistic pediatrician, supportive of non-vax or alternative vax. Don't know his views on diet, but he might be your best bet.
I have to second Dr. Stokes! He's a pretty out-of-the-box thinker, very holistic, and though I don't have any direct experience with him on the topic of veggie/veganism, I'm sure he'd be pretty open and responsive to your lifestyle! A few of my crunchiest friends have been taking their little ones to him for years, and I've never heard a bad word.
Hi Vanessa!
I'm a 7 year vegan in RI and just had my first child 2 weeks ago. I was looking for the same things in a pediatrician and after a lot of research, I found Dr. Kupperberg in Foster RI. https://plus.google.com/108187151582308130283/about?gl=us&hl=en
He's very accepting of our vegan lifestyle and he uses holistic therapies for many ailments. He's also laid back (yet informative) about vaccine choices.
Hope you find this helpful. Also, if ever you're looking for fellow vegan parents to hang out with, feel free to drop me a line.
my fiance and
i are always happy to meet like-minded people. More so now that we're new parents. vickyhogan@gmail.com
Take care,
Victoria
