So, no DPTP booster for ds, and no more, period. Yay! So now what? What happens when he goes to school or I want to put him in daycare or pre-school? DO I need an exemption of some sort? Can they reject him? It's not against the law to refuse to vaccinate in Canada...I'm just not clear on teh details. The Gov't website is vague. OR at least, what I can find is vague.

They can not reject him in school or day care. It is not a law in the USA nor in Canada. I don't have the web sites right on hand about all the possible exemptions, but someone will post them shortly. If not, I'll come back and link them for you.

Most schools have a simple form you fill out that states what reason you give and that's that. People just don't know about it, but it's there.

So, congratulations for doing the best you can for your son.

Keep reading, you'll never quite learning. And the more you learn, the more pleased you'll be with your decision.

What a coincidence

I just spoke to the Public Health (I am in Ontario) and they forwarded me to the department that takes care of vaccines, etc. They will be sending me a form that I need to fill out that states that our children have not been vaccinated, and any other pertinent details. They keep this on file and apparently will contact you if there is an outbreak of any kind, telling you to stay home until everything clears up. I believe that this form is mandatory when entering the school system. They were all very nice to speak with.
That is my experience.

Wow! wish we had that here in the US, this way we would know when there is a measles outbreak and take our kids to get them their natural immunity. :LOL

Yes, I though that it was a great service. How efficient it is, I do not know but the intent is there.

Ontario is the only province(NS might be one too, can't remember but it's in that site that was listed) where you need any exemption. The other provinces you don't have to do anything. If anyone gives you grief remind them that it is not required to be vaccinated and that you'd be happy to show them where to get the proper information.

Wow, thanks so much for the info ladies! I have to say, I was initially a bit apprehensive in refusing the last shot. Not because I was unsure that it was the right thing to do, just because, well, I grew up in a 'Doctor knows best' household and so on and so forth. Anyhow, every day since, I have never been more at peace with a tough descision. I have you ladies (and gentlemen) to thank!

Thanks so much for the info and the support!

Emily

P.S. Tracy, thanks for the link! I hadn't seen it!
