steam cleaners

I want one but they are like $200! Have you seen them? Those deals that shoot out hot water and melt dirt off everything in the house?

Does anyone have one?

girl, i made my hubby buy one for me last christmas. it is fabulous. we had red wine stains and coffee stains and chocolate stains and cat and dog puke stains, but that sucker zapped 'em right out! and mine is that super fancy hoover spin scrub model with attachments to do hard floors, and upholstery, so my kitchen floor at least has the potential to be squeaky clean.
it is loud as bejeezus though, so i can't run it if shoshanna is nearby. and i am a little concerned about the cleaning solution, but i guess it's a trade off between the filth we track into the carpet and the chemicals in the cleaner.
you are right, they are very expensive. but i figure we would have to pay big bucks to have the whole house done when we sell anyway, so it's paid for itself by keeping the carpets clean all the time.

now that sounds great, but the thing I mean is this thing that shoots steam like at tile and windows and ovens and melts away the crud. Is yours the same thing?

Shoshanna'smom, can you give me a make and model of yours? It sounds like something I would love!

Mamapie -- I think USAmma mentioned (in another thread) that she has one and loves it.

I saw a commercial for it on TV just yesterday (Sears has it for $99, according to the ad) and I think it looks great! But I'd like to find out more about it.

If you don't mind WalMart they have a Dirt Devil Steamcleaner for $80.

irishmommy mine is the hoover max extract with spin scrub.
i do have attachments that will allow me to do the tub and tile, i just haven't used them yet.
i think you can get the scumbuster for about 50 bucks. it's a portable steam cleaner.

I have a Eureka Hot Shot machine and it was about $70. I just saw a Steam Shark at Sears for $99 today. It doesn't do *everything* the infomercial on a similar machine claims, but it still does enough to make it worth the money. I use it several times a week where I would normally use vinegar or something stronger.

It does melt soap scum but the brush is so tiny you'd be at the bathtub all day applying it. Best still to scrub with some jobs. It works great in little nooks and crannies where crud builds up, on the drip pans, etc. Even does countertops . . . and windows! :-)

We have a little green machine and I like it for cleaning up spills and quick spot treatments (and for the carpets in the car), but it is too small to use to do the whole carpet and floors.

I have borrowed a friends Eureka and I am going to try it out tomorrow and see if I like it or not. I have a linoleum floor in one bathroom that will not come clean no matter how much I mop or scrub it. I'll let y'all know!

Michelle! You are not supposed to use steam on linoleum-- it will take the shine out! Well hope it at least gets the stains out. I have a non-shiny place on my floor because I didn't read the instructions first. Oops!

LOL I know it will deshine it, I figure I can always coat it with something horrible like Polyurethane if I really wanted it to shine but it will likely be replaced with ceramic within the next year anyway. I just want it clean so that the baby can crawl on it! DH's ex roommate was a 22 yr old swimsuit model (LOL all his single friends were SOOOOOOOOOO jealous) and she messed up the floor with makeup and stuff worse then my 4 older kids EVER messed up a floor when they were little. I jus wanna get the makeup stains out and I don't care if it's shiny.

Armstrong makes a product that will reshine your floor if you want to check into that - proabably beats using mop and glo all the time. Call a flooring store and ask them. I don't know what kind of chemicals are in it tho.
