Questions for other Zoloft mommies...

Hi! I've been taking 50mg of Zoloft a day for a little over a month now for anxiety attacks and depression. It has done wonders for me, however, I have some ??'s for anyone else who is taking or has taken Zoloft while nursing. My ds is 18 mo. and he nurses between 3-6 times a day. He has been teething really really hard and is getting his 4 molars at the same time. I usually give him a teething homeopathic but this time, he has had fever and is terribly fussy. I wanted to give him Motrin, and called the doctor and pharmacist to find out if it was okay to give him Tylenol or Motrin since he would be getting a little Zoloft through my breastmilk. I just wanted to make sure that there were no reactions. Well, they told me that they didn't know!? That the leaflet in the Zoloft said that they were not commited to saying it was okay to take anything like Tylenol for a breastfed baby while the mother was on Zoloft? WTH?? So how can I know what to give my baby if I really need to give him something for fever or his teeth? Have any of you given Motrin or Tylenol to your breastfed baby while you took Zoloft?

Also, Zoloft gives me hardly any side effects besides sleepiness sometimes. But I did wonder if anyone had experienced a funny slight pressure or something in your eyes or head while on Zoloft? Not really a change in vison just almost like my eyes want to cross sometimes, but don't really. Am I making any sense? Just wondered if any of you have had this.
thanks so much!

Hmm, I've given my nursing dd Tylenol since I've been on Zoloft, and I'm on a higher dose than you. My dd was just fine.

Really? Have you given Motrin? I guess it would pretty much be the same, huh? Anyone have problems with pressure in your head or vision problems on Zoloft?
thanks again,

JM, I have been on Zoloft for nearly four years and still get that "loose brain" feeling every now and again. OK, I've had it a LOT lately, but I think that is also post-partum related.

I try to avoid giving stuff like Tylenol and Motrin whenever possible, but I've given it to my DD a few times in her 2½ years (nothing for new DS yet) and certainly haven't seen any ill effects. It sucks that everyone is running so scared of being sued that you can't even get a straight answer.

FWIW, I wouldn't worry about giving something like a bit of Tylenol or Motrin. Hugs, hon.

Just wondering what you mean by "that loose brain feeling". Is it almost like you feel cross eyed or something. Like pressure in your eyes?
thanks so much for sharing!

Yes...it is hard to describe, and it sounds like you're having the same issue. I don't know if I would term it as "pressure" but the cross-eyed or perhaps dazed seems more appropriate. Off-kilter is how I usually term it to my DH.

I don't know if that helped or not!

I've also been on 50mg of Zoloft since my dd (who is now 22 months) was 4 months old. I've given her many doses of Tylenol and Motrin for teething during that time and she's had no side effects.

As far as the weird brain/eye feeling, if I miss a dose or run out of the med, I can hear my eyeballs moving in my head. I also feel very off-track with my eyes. Like my brain can't follow my eyes fast enough. Yes, it sounds strange, but I've read A LOT of stories about people feeling these odd things when reducing their dose. Does it usually occur if you've missed a dose or are late with one?

I was on the highest dose of Zoloft possible all through pregnancy and when breastfeeding (through pumping and then bottle feeding the breastmilk-whole other story).Ds was given Tylenol and Motrin and never had side affects.

As for me I have been on Zoloft for so many years (9) that I no longer have any side affects at all.The only ones I really remember having was dry mouth and headaches in the beginning.

Good luck.
