Well, I am no longer a May mama, since our May 24th date didn't work out. But we're on schedule for birth tomorrow, first thing! I have to be at the hospital at 6 am (unless they're swamped, in which case we'll wait until things are calmer) and the doc says the baby should be out by around 8:15. How weird to schedule this, and not be listening for that first "real" contraction! Seems so wrong... (For those who don't know, I have a placenta previa that never rectified, so we scheduled delivery by c/s. I'm technically 38 weeks [original EDD was June 18th]--a bit early but we can't chance me going into labor this time.)

So, I hope to be posting our birth story early next week--or maybe from the hospital, if we get the Netzero software installed on my laptop before we go in.

Congratulations all around!

mcsarahb- I'm sorry about your mastitis! It sounds like you've had quite a dramatic start to breastfeeding. I'm glad it's going well now. I have finally entered the stage where breastfeeding is easy, after my own trials (not as dramatic). Hooray.

jakobsmami- my little one's name is spelled the same- Lukas Edward. I chose it because it was the Swedish, rather than the English, spelling. Is Lukas also a German name?

turboclaudia- I hope your little one is in your arms VERY soon.

I'm sending labor vibes out to all you may mommas that are waiting for your arrivals.

my bonny boy luke is napping now- I'm probably going to regret typing rather than napping with him. Hopefully, I'll catch his next nap.

I hope to get a birth story together in the next week or so. My sweet little Camille was born on May 25th at 401pm after 37 hours of labor and 32 hours after my water broke. The birth was nothing that I had anticipated (induction, etc.) but I was able to have the vaginal birth I wanted and my midwife was wonderfully patient and encouraging. Shortly after birth it was clear Camille was having breathing troubles and she spent a week in the special care nursery for tachypnea, air in her chest cavity and pneumonia. Luckily the hospital has a "nesting room" where I got to stay for the week which helped us stay on track w/ bf'ing. I'm enjoying every minute of having her home w/ me now. Looking forward to reading about the rest of the May babies and hearing about how all our May babes are doing.

Heather, mama to my sweet Camille, born 5/25/04

Well, after all my post last week about trying to dodge an induciton, I was promptly admitted that very night for... dut dut dut DAH... an induction! It certainly wasn't my ideal start to labor, and the eventual c-section I had early Saturday morning wasn't the ideal end to labor, BUT....

My precious Mia Marie was born as a result of it all!!! She came into this world at 1:30 AM on 5/29, via c-section after a long and eventful, but non-progressing labor. She weighed 7 lbs, 13 oz and measured in at 20.5 inches.

Breastfeeding is going really well, and we seem to have adjusted into an eat/sleep/eat/sleep/eat/sleep pattern since my milk came in. DH and are loving every minute of our babymoon and we just can't get enough of our gorgeous little one.

I'll try to post a birth story at some point, but in the meantime, here are a few pics of Mia... http://share.shutterfly.com/action/s...en=1&sm=1&sl=0

See you all over at Life With a Babe!

Oh, she's so precious! Such big eyes!

I'm thinking of AnaNicole, too, because we know she's had her baby... hope everything went well.

I promise I'll update the "quick status list" sometime today and add all the new babies (I've been slack, I know!).

It's a boy!

After a marathon 36-hour labor, our baby boy was born at home, under our bed at 12:17pm today! More about that in my birth story to come soon... He weighs 7lbs 5oz and is 20 inches long has the softest blond lanugo all over his body and is just perfect! Names are still being discussed...

warmly,
claudia

Hello again all,
It is so wonderful to read about all the babies being born. I haven't been posting because my dial up connection at home has been very very slow. I have been thinking about you all and wondering about all these May babies. This is the first chance I have been online since our baby was born.

My little one, Eleanor Margaret, was born at 1:58 a.m. on May 30 at 8 lbs and 20 inches. We had a wonderful labor at home with my partner really being an amazing birth support person and a fabulous doula to give us hints when we needed it (like when to go to the hospital). The hospital birth was not ideal however. My Ob was out of town and her replacement swooped in and really MANAGED the birth her way (despite my obvious progress before she arrived - I was at 10 cm and pushing great). She had to be stopped from doing an episiotomy (didn't ask, just reached for the scissors), had me change positions to one that freaked my out, had me hold my breath, spent a lot of the time telling me I was pushing wrong, asked the nurses to do fundal pressure to hurry the baby out (they refused), and pulled my placenta out herself to top it off. I was so happy to have out baby in my arms when she did slip out that I wasn't mad. My partner and the doula were horrified. I plan to talk to my OB about it...not sure what else I can do. It could have been worse, but obviously it could have been so much better. She is beautiful and I am so happy to be a mom that I haven't worked up any outrage, particularly since I really trust my OB and I feel confident it would have been different had she been there. Next time (if there is one) I am going with a home birth...lessons learned.

As new moms we are having a great time trying to get to know our little girl. We are so blessed.

Happy babymoons to you all!

A&L+1, congratulations! I love the name you chose...Eleanor is one of those I've always loved.

Sounds like everything went well in spite of the OB. Glad you had great support people at home.

Welcome to the world Eleanor!
